So I worked for a construction company for 7 years and I highly recommend, if you can, to get your contractors license. I know it sounds silly and you don’t need it for what you are doing, but a lot of companies give major discounts to general contractors. When I did my remodel, my boss (the contractor) let me use the business to get all of my supplies, cabinets, countertops, etc. It saved us so much money. We got a 9 foot by 5 foot marble look quartz island pre-finished slab for only $700! Without the contractors discount it would have been over $1500. All of our cabinets for our kitchen and two bathrooms came out to less than $5,000 for white shaker with soft close everything. I even got slide outs for the lower cabinets. Just something for you to look into. 😊

I totally agree with you! For my husband and I, we have access to military discounts and may possibly have access to a contractor discount. Where did you get your countertops? I'm assuming it wasn't through Lowe's or HD? We HATE our current counters and would love to replace them. Our neighbors just paid 23k to get their's done, but that pricing seems astronomically high.

I’m in Southern California. We got our cabinets from a place called Anaheim Kitchen and Bath. My boss (the contractor) has an account there so we got almost 50% off the regular prices for our cabinets. For our countertops we used a place called stone depot. When I called them I just asked if I could get the contractor discount and they gave it to me. I never showed them anything lol.

It is extremely expensive getting a general contractor's license. This isn't something you can just print off the internet. It carries a liability, so they have to put up a lot of money to prove they can sustain their business, like $40,000 (that number actually might be low). Not to mention all the time and experience and probably testing that they have to prove too.

Removing real Wood for pressed wood, not very smart - could have just refurbished them, and raise them. Replace the lighting, redo the counter tops and a new deep sink. And paint the walls.

Best of Luck - I’m sure it will be beautiful but the best part is, your mother will be beyond happy and so proud of you guys for doing it for her!! We DIYd our 1983 kitchen in 2021. We did every single little tiny thing ourselves. Cabinets came from Home Depot (special order), we did LVP floors, Floor & Decor tile, granite countertops, farm sink & faucet from Lowe’s, all new appliances from Best Buy, new window sashes, new paint, crown molding, a pot filler, lights from Lamps Plus (online) and cabinet hardware from Hobby Lobby. We spent $13k and ended up with a $30k kitchen!! It’s gorgeous and everyone in the neighborhood has been in to see it and is begging us to do theirs! LOL. We even inspired two neighbors to redo their kitchens too….which is great for us because it helps keep up the property value of the homes all around us and it inspires people to clean up and maintain their properties because there’s just something about renovations that drives people to keep going and do other long overdue projects. It’s really great - neighbors start talking to each other more frequently, we start having Bar-B-Qs again to show off our finished stuff, the kids are playing more happily when the adults are having fun, laughing & talking, the whole thing just snowballs and becomes this really fantastic, friendly atmosphere. I hope all that happens to you too! Best Wishes

I've installed many of these "cabinets to go" throughout the years. They are assembled using clips and hardware much like IKEA. Eventually they will start to sag, especially cabinets with heavier items. You can combat this by adding extra glue to all the rabbit joints, and then extra fastening with crown staples. I personally would not recommend unless you have extra time and trust your abilities.

@@Heyu7her3 she didn't replace them with hard wood. She got ply wood. Both are fake wood, so maybe someone can explain how that's better. And the replacements pale in comparison to the look of the originals.

My new kitchen cost about three times what the blue kitchen has. Mines also larger. But $5000 of that is quartz countertops. It took us 6 months to complete. But some of that was the countertop wasn't done correctly 3 times. We also were only working weekends. Since both my son and I were working 60 hours weeks.

Can I suggest to anyone on here…if you are doing a budget refit of a kitchen…someone else might buy the kitchen you have just thrown out because they are on a budget as well. Think of re-selling the kitchen cabinets to someone else(and adding to your budget)and stop adding to landfill…just a small suggestion because not everyone will see this kitchen as useless if they can’t afford brand new🤷🏻♀️👍🏼

I don't see why moving perfectly good cabinets is a good remodeling thing? If the wood is not damaged do a paint job instead. Things trend, come and go back to a vintage kitchen from the 1980s, WOW that seems weird to me that 1980s would be vintage.

I’m confused, $5,000. For the whole kitchen, ALL new cabinets, and there are tons of them? This included appliances, and lighting. Even not needed to pay for labor, if that a,ou t covers the supply’s, someone -as in every contractor is way over charging.
@delanceydiy4 ай бұрын
We’re reusing all her appliances. 11 new cabinets (ready to assemble) was roughly $3000. New laminate is a few hundred. I think we’ll stay on budget! Obviously my labor and my siblings is free.
@JordanWatson-bz4fb4 ай бұрын
Contactors have to carry liability, workman's comp, maintain vehicles and tools and pay taxes and permit fees. The cabinets she purchased are low quality cabinets that you have to assemble yourself and are never truly square. Also when a contractor does work, they are required to bring electric, plumbing and anything they touch up to code. They are also required to warranty workmanship which could mean call backs, even when it could be from manufacturer defects. Her budget is almost spent after buying some low quality cabinets and flooring without paying for any labor. So your assumption is way off.
@JordanWatson-bz4fb4 ай бұрын
Ps I'm not saying they are low quality cabinets to be a jerk... It's just the truth of the matter when compared to what's available on the market.
