Custom 1980 Honda CM400 Scrambler. This bike was built with a tight budget in mind. The total build cost, including motorcycle, spare parts bike, and other parts came in at about $1,200 total! Built in a standard garage with no fancy lifts or tools outside of a welder, this project could be tackled by any hobbyist like myself.
Check out my page for the full write-up on the process!

Very nice work. I just bought a 80 CM400T, I'm going to Bob mine, I havent decided If I'm going to Hard tail it or not, I probally wont, I'll probally just get some 2016-2019 Suzuki Boulevard shocks, the Honda stock shocks are 13" tall and the Boulevard shocks are 10 3/4" tall, that will give me a 2 1/4" drop in the back. I wanna go low but not too low.

Thanks! I bobbed a similar bike in a 1982 Yamaha XJ650. I left the suspension as-is as my lower back is bad enough as it is lol. jc-custom.com/motorcycles/maximus-1982-yamaha-xj650-maxim/

An amazing transformation. Where did you get those wheels?

@@jibsesquilax I did not record it, but the process is really simply. Get a scuff pad like the ones listed below. Scuff up your wheels so the whole surface looks cloudy. Paint with wheel paint. Done! I don't even bother taping off the tires if you are painting black. You won't even notice it if you get some on them. Scuff Pad - amzn.to/4bHgEwu Wheel Paint - amzn.to/44JEnde

I used the stock airbox and messed around with jetting quite a bit. Found the stock jets to be the best honestly lol 🤣 A lot of work just to go back to the original way it was setup.

so i was planning on running pod filters and the same trucker pipes you used,theres 1-5 stage jet kits and the stage 5 says that its for pod filters and no baffle mufflers, any thoughts/opinions? @@jcurtiscustoms
@jcurtiscustoms
@jcurtiscustoms 11 ай бұрын
As noted above, I would recommend using the stock jets and getting your sync right first, then move onto jets. I have never used pods because from everything I have read, they just mess with an optimal running engine. I had a backup set of carbs that I pulled the jets out of and used micro drill bits to bore them out as I went which was a total waste of time lol.

How much do you charge for a build like this?
@jcurtiscustoms
@jcurtiscustoms 9 ай бұрын
I only ever build bikes for myself, honestly. I think this bike probably has around 60ish hours in it. Maybe a little less. These bikes typically only sell for a couple grand, though. Not sure if that helps? If asking if I would do a custom build, well, I don't typically have time unfortunately.

Scramblers have a high exhaust? That nasty Chinese wrap will loosen, and smell until it falls off. DEI is the only one that works.

@jcurtiscustoms 9 ай бұрын
Well, you couldn't be more wrong about the wrap. I have done the same wrap on a few bikes now and none of them have loosened or fallen off. This one even went for a swim in some deep water holes. But thanks for your opinion.
