Wow. Gorgeous. The filing of the brass is the perfect touch. I've never seen a woodworking shop do that. What a high end finish! This was a joy to watch.

Love the way he made that piano lock mechanism look like the screws didn’t exist. Gotta try that on my next box project. Also, holy crap what a shop! This man must move a lot of product. Great channel, thanks for posting.

@@od_form Of course! Mind if I ask you where you got the tool to drill the center of the end of the dowel rod? I’ve looked and looked for something like that and have never been able to find a set.

@@od_form whoa, that is awesome, (and I’m definitely gonna have to try that one), but I was talking about how you drilled the holes perfectly in the center of each one to link them together. It looks like you have some kind of tool you push over the ends of each one. Man, I watched your whole video again, and it really inspired me to up my game. I’m a 60 year old retired Navy vet, and build things to help supplement my SSI. Your work is amazing! I love your big hydraulic press… unfortunately my entire shop is just a 12x24’ shed, (but I love it 🙂). Anyways, I’ve been wanting to do wood hinges, but have a hard time getting the holes drilled dead center for the metal rod used to link them.

Absolutely outstanding work, beautiful design but please do not use the jointer for small pieces and certainly without the guard in place properly and a push stick. I lost 1 and a bit fingers jointer drawer runners early in my career and would hate to see that happen to you.

New woodworker question: the center part of your panels look like they expand/contract horizontal, but the top and bottom rails run the opposite way. It looks like you used glue on all four sides of the panel. What allows you to do this safely so the wood doesn't split over time? Great video sequencing! I'm enjoying watching and reflecting on every move of the project. Thank you for posting.

Another question: How come you dented/scratched up the surface of the brass screws before filing, but not the brass plate? I've never seen this technique before.
@Si-Al-Ti
@Si-Al-Ti Жыл бұрын
He’s peening the screw heads to make sure they completely fill up the countersinks in the plate. Countersinked screws and holes rarely match perfectly and small gaps can reveal themselves during filing/finishing 💀 As for the first question I’m not exactly sure but I’m guessing you’re worried that the enclosed fir “sandwich” might split the borders/frame. Since it’s under a few layers of veneer and glue and as long as the relative humidity stays fairly constant in the room I’d say it’s not a very big risk. I’m no pro on wood swelling in joinery though, but it’s my take on the matter :)
@mattchew5965

@S T really appreciate the detailed reply. Glad I asked. Yes, it was the fir sandwiched that confused me... I've only seen examples of plywood stabilizing veneer and not the other way around where the veneer stabilizes the core. His work is so nice it's probably going to end up in a perfectly climatized home, so I see your point. Thank you!
