Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry

TOF MS is pretty simple. Until you realize that a simple (linear) TOF is a horrible mass analyzer. To solve the problem of initial energy dispersion, we need to build a different kind of analyzer - the reflecton TOF.

I did the same calculation 20 years back when I bought my first QTOF. I was so excited when I found out the speed and made a poster with a Ferrari, F16, meteor 😀 But doing the next natural step and calculate what 1 ppm mass accuracy is in seconds just blew my mind!!!
