Time - Pink Floyd (1973) • Time - Pink Floyd (1973)
"Time" was released on Pink Floyd's 8th studio album, The Dark Side of the Moon in the winter of 1973. The Dark Side of the Moon's themes include conflict, greed, the passage of time and mental illness, the latter partly inspired by founding member Syd Barrett's deteriorating mental state. HD FLAC Captions Immersion Remaster!
The suite was developed during live performances and was premiered several months before studio recording began. The new material was recorded in two sessions in 1972 and 1973 at Abbey Road Studios in London. The group used some of the most advanced recording techniques of the time, including multitrack recording and tape loops. Analogue synthesisers were given prominence in several tracks, and a series of recorded interviews with the band's road crew and others provided the philosophical quotations used throughout. Engineer Alan Parsons was directly responsible for some of the most notable sonic aspects of the album, and the recruitment of non-lexical performer Clare Torry. The album's iconic sleeve features a prism that represents the band's stage lighting, the record's lyrical themes, and keyboardist Richard Wright's request for a "simple and bold" design.
The Dark Side of the Moon was an immediate success, topping the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart for one week. It subsequently remained in the charts for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988, longer than any other album in history. With an estimated 50 million copies sold, it is Pink Floyd's most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling albums worldwide. It has twice been remastered and re-released, and has been covered in its entirety by several other acts. It spawned two singles, "Money" and "Time". In addition to its commercial success, The Dark Side of the Moon is one of Pink Floyd's most popular albums among fans and critics, and is frequently ranked as one of the greatest rock albums of all time.
This is the 3rd edit of this video I've uploaded. There is some strangeness with the current version where the audio isn't playing correctly....not sure why. I wanted to go in and quickly re-upload and see if the audio would work correctly (it does). It would be a good opportunity to re-edit the video a bit as well. Even though there were lots of things I wanted to change with the video, I didn't really want to spend too much time ;-) on it and only planned on removing the transition edits during first 2 minutes (fades in and out of the clock swing). Of course once I got in there again, the editing went way beyond the first 2 minutes....it's basically the same video with some new effects and timings to spruce it up a bit. I hope you enjoy visuals for this amazing track....thanks for watching!!!

[Lyrics]
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
BREATHE REPRISE
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

Reminds me of all of the antique clocks that my now late mother collected when I was young. The true test of how certain music is still relevant, is by how long it still gets listened to after it is released. "Time" is timeless.

Wow, I can't believe my ears. For years, I've seen statements from Alan Parsons talking about "zits" on the master tape for this album and I never heard them EVER. Not on my original 1973 vinyl or SACD. But, on this video, I can hear them, very quiet little crackles you can only hear in the background in the quiet parts. Stellar!

Well....that was fun! Took the video down and made layer adjustment to fix the missing watch face in one sequence, flipped one instance of Dali's Leda Atomica painting and made 2 very quick color adjustments....did a quick check of the render, uploaded, and NOW checking the video I notice a couple of masks slipping in the 5th Avenue Building Clock?! Man, those things were tricky and gave me grief....to get those other images inside that clock (which was also in motion) with only a narrow border, since I'd also masked out the middle of the image for other effects. I do think I finally figured out how to achieve the same effect with the swinging watch to plug in some other effects into it and keep them tracked properly inside the narrow border while the watch swings....something I had tried with the previous version, but gave up on. But by the time it dawned on me how to do it, I had already frittered and wasted enough hours in this off-hand way, ;-) It will be cool to try something along these lines with another video....or of course the next time I have to do this one!? ;-)

Outstanding. One of the all-time greatest rift leadins of any song ever. I started with Floyd when I bought the "Umma Gumma" double album way back when I was still young. I still have the t-shirt that I bought at The Wall concert in 1979. I saw Roger Waters two years in Toronto and it was as big a trip as seeing Rush last year. Pink Floyd just never did anything wrong. Thanks again MetalMan for the 'trip' down memory lane...

Great Job Brother and again, thanks so so much 🙏👍🙌❤

Hey Lee! Wow....that was a crazy one for sure, but it got claimed, and blocked early on (by someone claiming to be PINK FLOYD...a manual claim when of course their record company already has policies in place for everything...and though earlier they would pull them down and then let them go again, lately they've been pretty stable and playing worldwide). I had only recently found that it no longer blocked, and actually started an update...it needs some adjusting and at least a bit of cohesiveness....of course then again, it IS Atom Heart! LOL! I really appreciate hearing from folks who get exactly what the effort is about with these vids. I've had discussions with some reps from different people controlling the rights and I just remind them that without exposure, the songs will slowly fade as the fans familiar with the work shuffle off and it's only a younger audience. I tell of my stories at work, where the younger people have never heard of say BOC, or Kansas, or Styx or Supertramp (if I could have uploaded videos for this band, I'd have lots of their work shared), or Styx or on and on....there are actually people I work with who don't know who even the giants like Fleetwood Mac, Floyd, Yes, Tull are!? Though I'm not sure of all the things that might be involved in the decisions, and I certainly support 100% any artist that doesn't want their music shared in fan videos, I'll never understand how it's not better to just let people make as many videos as they like, claim them (as they do on nearly everything I've ever uploaded), and make some extra coin from the ads? Not too long ago I had a cool little thing for a Camel song made and the fan club (who I guess was allowed to claim) took it down....I discussed with the guys that Camel was already fairly obscure and it could certainly get all the new ears that it could find....and how was it better to block something (for which there was no official video) than to let that video earn something for the band? They actually seemed to have a change of heart, but it was too late. Pretty soon all the old hardcore fans interested in making free videos will be gone and there probably won't be the interest for making and sharing videos of music from people who didn't grow up with the artists and don't have the same level of passion....sure they might make one for "Money" but who's gonna do "Green Is the Colour", or gawd forbid Atom Heart Mother?! LOL! Peace n love to ya in the coming year, my friend!

@@MetalGuruMessiah Hi John, There are so many examples of music getting yanked its crazy. Even when vids are used for teaching aids by professional Engineers, Musicians and Instructors who ACTUALLY WORKED ON THE ORIGINAL RECORDING :-( A perfect example is Leland Sklar, a hugely popular Bass Session musician or Rick Beato who is pretty much THE authority of song dissection on KZfaq. Those guys are constantly shaking their head at what the business has become. My concern is that since the dismantling of Google Play, Google is now pushing people into "KZfaq Music". I can't think of there being any other reason except rebooting a platform that they can monitor and control even worse. Mark my words and I hope I'm wrong. But, one day music on KZfaq will be directed entirely to their "Music" platform. I was so impressed with your work on Time. You really gave Syd an honest and proper nod. That for me was the Psychedelic Cow equivalance in Atom Heart Mother and mixing in "Screaming Pink" from The Wall was bloody brilliant 👏.. A fine example of "freedom to share" is what The Grateful Dead business model is based on. As I'm sure you're aware, they dedicated an entire Section of space at their concerts so fans could record and share their Tapes. As Jerry Garcia had said, "Once I'm done with the music, people can do with it what they want.." Perhaps if an artist is missing out of boatloads of cash can I see marking or pulling a vid but as you mentioned the exposure is often worth a lot more than literally a few cents. It's such a different business model now that Bob Dylan and David Crosby sold their entire libraries. Anyhow, I'm so grateful to people like yourself that keep things fresh and updated in this hectic world. I've communicated with huge Dead fans that are transferring everything they can get to 4k, a huge Chris Squire fan who helps to keep people listening to Squires' solo work (and of course YES), Guy Pratt from The Floyd and of course yourself. All you guys continue to promote and push what I love, inspiring me to play Bass, pushing me into conversations with friends and strangers in a business that is no where what it once was. But keep on keeping on, and I'll always pass on the good word. Kindness is contagious.. Sorry for the ramble but I do look forwards to exploring your other work. I LOVED your RUSH (Here Again) tribute and its my goto when I want to fumble my way through some of Geds links.. If you ever make it up to Canada I'll buy you a few Beer 😃 Cheers John, you're one of the good one's 👍.. -Lee

@@Karmakatt6 More later, but LOVE Leland's channel and saw all the bs he had to go through with some songs he was trying to share. He brings SO MUCH to the table for these artists and fans, who in their right mind wouldn't want him to make a video to promote a song (your song!) that he worked on. The man is a treasure....and one of the channels that I spend most of my viewing time....not to mention he's a brilliant bass player....always loved his stuff.

Hi Johnathan. Thanks for sharing your ability to turn an outstanding musical number into a surrealistic journey upon the astral planes of my limbic region...the really resplendent aspect of your skillmanship lies in the hypnotic effect it immerses me in. It may seem oxymoronic, yet I slip into what I call, "a conscious fugue state" a la "acide clinique blanc". The layman's term for that is a "flashback caused from past use of white clinical acid". Sometimes I'm not sure if they're falshbacks at all, and that I simply never fully returned from many of the cerebral ventures I took part in...REQUEST: "Napoleon Sheds His Skin" ~ Red Rider, "Subdivisions" and "Manhattan Project" ~ Rush, "Games People Play ~ Alan Parsons Project, and believe it or not, "Someone To Believe In" by my long time friend and acquaintance, the iconic living legend, Mr. Gordon Lightfoot {Summer Side of Life, Sit Down Young Stranger, Black Day In July, were war protest songs. LBJ acyually had all of Lightfoot's tunes banned from USA radio stations after Black Day was released. Even though LBJ banned them, a lot of American stations continued to play his stuff. Cleveland WABQ and WKYC played them regularly after telling LBJ to put his fingers in his ears or shut the radio off.

Already a big fan of yours, MGM, so I can say this: If you're going to take another crack at it, The "Time" vid might benefit from losing quite so many repetitions of the Floyd group portrait. This is a song designed to get "lost" in, and the Other Fab Four popping up throughout kind of snatches us out of the ethereal and crams us back into, "Yeah, we KNOW: Waters, Gilmour, Wright and Mason (not in that order), and yeah, we KNOW this is DSOTM." Floyd was never a personality cult kind of thing; in fact, they wanted to put their music BETWEEN themselves and the audience; really didn't like performing (Waters famously spitting on an audience member led to the self-inventory that resulted in The Wall). If this is in cuttable layered timeline format, consider, maybe, knocking out some of the group photo and instead swooping through with an animation of of the Moon moving through its phases. Time? Moon? Dark sides? Not meaning to teach my grandmother to suck eggs....

Awesome you're connecting with the work....it's great to hear from other fans! Yes, my style can get pretty repetitious and its been a criticism which I absolutely understand (basically I can never decide which effect with minor adjustments works best so I cram them all in (well not all! LOL!). I've argued in the past that my videos are repetitious because they mirror the repetitious nature of the music itself (and I still believe that to a degree), but it's also because when I'm making the videos there comes a point in almost all when I think to myself "I'm tired of this...just finish it...you're not getting paid" LOL!) and this can compound the result to a higher degree. I really need a good editor to chop away, but positive criticisms such as you offer are the next best thing for me. After I'd uploaded this vid and watched it a couple of times I realized that it needed to lose much of the repetition and especially use the Meddle image less....it's my favorite photo of the band and you'll see it featured too prominently in all my PF vids, but it's most obviously overused here. I've been thinking about the next upgrade (Ver. 4!) since the upload and yeah, think it can be improved with more variation. Your suggestions are wonderful....mark my words...I'll take them and put them to (hopefully) good result! ;-) Sincere thanks for the constructive criticism.
