Great Vid for those of us new to milling, can’t thank you enough. 4 items ordered. 👍 Couple more that I’d still like also. The quill speed nut unfortunately out of stock with no idea when they might become available again. The quill handle next and eventually the auto draw bar gizmo - but I’ve got to save the pennies a bit longer yet. 👍👍👍🇦🇺

The reason the knee handle has a flat section inside the teeth is because it originally had a spring that kept the teeth between the mill and handle from meshing. You would need to push the handle so the teeth would engage when moving the knee. Most people removed the spring because it was awkward to push and turn. Today it's ideal if you have a Z axis feed because you don't have a handle swinging around when feeding up at the prefect height to hit your nuts.

I like the vice jaw tool. Put a magnet in the end of that thing with some epoxy, and I bet it feels a lot more stable.

Good ideas, some I allready had plans for when I get my mill. (It's on order) I think I like the vise jaw thumb wrench the best. I have a new Kurt 6" vise. I plan on putting a riser block in the turret, surprised you didn't talk about that. Maybe 4" for me.

I make my own thumb drivers for the vise jaw screws, too. I make mine to be driven by a ratcheting wrench that way you do not have to switch from allen key to thumb driver and I make them just long enough to frr the ratcheting wrench over them with the jaws open as little as possible so I do not have to be opening the jaws too far all the time.

I would also recommend finding a good Gladwin indicator online if you can. No longer in production, but still around. They read from both sides, and are the easiest way to indicate the center of a hole.

Stuart, how did you get your mill? did you save up and buy it, get it used?

I saved up and kept checking Craigslist. I missed out on a lot of them, so you really need to be patient. Mine was a very bare bones machine when I bought it so I don't think a lot of people were interested. Consequently, I got a great deal on it. Only $1200. From there, I've added the power feeds, DRO, and power draw bar, as well as the other items I've shown in this video. Good luck in your search!

Hopefully you can adapt some of the ideas in the video to your specific machine. The quill handle and quick adjust quill nut are not that complex and would be easy enough to make using your specs. Thanks for watching anyway!

Too many are solutions to non existent problems. Nothing worth 16 minutes of my time.
