Brandon you never fail to deliver. I have been doing TS since 2013 when I got my training from Northwestern University MSPA degree. When I saw the first few min of the video about stocks, I rolled my eyes and said, "here we go again." Then I continued watching, because I like your videos, and you went into common knowledge, assumptions etc. This was something that the other TS videos do not have. This video wasn't about R or Python code, it was about a time-series model. Absolutely outstanding! I will be watching the entire series and thank you.

Hi Brandon, I really appreciate your atomic teaching method that breaks down concepts to micro components. You allow learners get a firm grip of the building blocks to a seemingly intimidating topic. Thanks for good work.

well this the real deal - as a very cautious wannabe foreign exchange trader I would just like to say this is excellent. But as all traders know, stocks have an upward bias over time, the random walk is only applicable over shorter time periods. Forex, on the other hand, is very much more up-and-down, as either side of the currency pair (eg, EURUSD), could go up or down, thus changing the exchange rate with much less overall bias. So, my thought is, is the forex market significantly different in this test?

Thanks for watching! I admit that I do not know much about the characteristics of the FOREX markets. It is true that equity markets trend upward over long periods and RW over short periods. Since trying to forecast a stock price the next day is the shortest of short periods, it is usually seen as a RW. But overall, this is just a video about learning time series basics and not about the actual trading of assets so I don't want to get too far into the weeds on that. :)

How short is the short-run here ?
@BrandonFoltz
@BrandonFoltz Жыл бұрын
Hi Azam! The length of a "run" is situational, but in general, to detect patterns in level, trend, seasonality, etc. several cycles of that component need to have occurred over a bit of time. Technical analysis for example is full of indicators that detect momentum or movement using moving averages. There are many others. Hard to answer fully here. Hope that helps!
