Quote "The orkneys were a cultural backwater", of course that all changed after the discovery of the temple complex a few years after this was shot.

Fun to watch, wish I could have seen it when it was aired years ago. Good little show for the less learned about Viking archarology, but then again, I'm looking back from what we know more of in 2019. Still nice to the late Robin Bush hosting his own show.

DId the trade route extend to Phi Phi Island, Thailand, where there are petroglyphs in some of the caves that depict Viking ships?

Wouldn't put it past them. Those guys went a lot farther than most people think. They were skillful seamen and not afraid of anything or anybody. Viking longships were amazingly well built.
