Janet Stoker oh wow 2003 I would of been 5/6 lol and Yh was a good visit she doing a lot better now just have bit trouble with breathing she gets out of breath really quick and can't really use stairs hence why they live in bungalow now. Grandad is kind the same to and still makes all his model trains so guess he just does it to keep his busy and doing something .. Was a nice drive up there took 5 hours. Cool lil town they lived in not really much there to do.

I loved the way she described freeing the skeleton from the soil when she found it . . . according to what she had learned by watching TT.

Well, she also proved that she at least had some idea of what she was doing when she unearthed Henry the first time. Phil is a lovely man but he's not going to let just anyone work on an excavation that delicate unless he's sure they're not going to mess it up.

It's just to say, in Massachussetts you're far more likely to dig down on a Pequot (not sure, but anyway some indigenous New England tribe member) than a pure Saxon (Saxon descendants are more common in areas of heavy German immigration to the US). Because even in the British population, Saxon genes are not the largest proportion. When TT sets out to find X, but instead or also find Y, they switch gears and are glad to contribute to their knowledge on that account. (The British Isles have seen many mass arrivals of new people from the East who either added to the local genetic mix or in some cases almost completely replaced it, at least in the male line. Old Europeans were those who occupied Western Europe for tens of thousands of years (think Lascaux cave). They were mainly hunter-gatherers until some farming practices appeared in the late neolithic and we don't know what language(s) they spoke but it was certainly not the Celtic or Germanic languages that became dominent with the settlers/conquerors from the East who were all descended from people, if you go back far enough, coming from where the Indo-European language group originated. (There are a few tiny pockets of people of Old European stock still found in a few places (Sardinia, N. Finland etc.)

Depends on the plant. Rockery plants are usually pretty hardy and used to difficult conditions. This seems to be happening during a good season for transplantation, and I suppose it was done immediately. With that kind of soil turnover, this couple should see bumper growth in the next few years. Though if that plant suffered a bit but survived, some stunting could be a good thing for a rockery, because sometimes you have a bigger problem with your babies getting too big too fast and ruining the whole shebang.

That was Catherine Edwards, I believe. I saw her years later on a weird (to me) dig Tony narrated (not Time Team) in London. They were pulling down something old to build new and they had to allow archaeological investigation after demolition of the old. But it was all happening right at the same time, side by side. She slept right in the middle of the site, supposedly, it looked like a half-bunker with tarps strung over it and buggies all around it so it didn't get run over by a JCB, presumably. It looked like she was the only woman and maybe they had the men in an old policeman's barracks or something, I don't know. Dr. Damian Goodburn, Wood Technology Expert on TT and he was with MOLA for donkey's years, he was there, too. If you watch these types of documentaries, you never know who might turn up!

Unless the woman died of despondency after the loss of her pet, or it of hers. I suppose your explanation is the most likely, but at least it wasn't a human sacrifice so common among prehistoric peoples (and documented even among 20th c. groups still living in a stone age manner).

Chris c this was my favourite episode and the worst was the awful guys in TT special who robbed a Roman site using their metal detector and only thought about making money, lots of money.

It was really centered on humanness, with the 'finds''' being brought to life as individual human beings together with the lady of today's genuineness. I think that's what makes it so touching and relatable. The remarks all seem to pick up that aspect.

Considering pets have been found in other Saxon graves like this one has been I would say it is safe to assume the pet was sacrificed.

Many animals, coins and food were sent with the person who died. So the pupper may have been a special pet to that person maybe even what we call service dog.

I know this was posted three years ago but I so agree with you I just had to comment. My guess is they brought the lady presenter (who is coincidentally a former beauty queen of sorts ;)) to the team to draw in younger people. Unfortunatelly she lacked Tony's presence and enthusiasm. The last season wasn't all that good either and I must agree with Mick who said the TV station who made the show dumbed it down. There's much more messing around shown.

Kirkkaan Oranssi or tim taylor the producer had a mid life crisis and hired a dolly bird. Losing Helen and Mick and (mostly) Stewart was an insane idea

@alanrtment porter Agreed! I tried to watch the first episode of TT US on PBS and I hhhhhhhhhhhated it! Only made it through about 10 minutes before coming back online to rewatch Mick and the gang.
