In todays video its finally time to AI one of the girls - Bertha! We're hoping to expand the pig herd and without a boar on the farm we're using AI to hopefully get Bertha in pig.

Back in the late 1940's and early 50's my granddad used to walk his middle white boar to his pals on heat sows.. At that time in our small hamlet almost everyone had pigs, the old boar could usually smell where he had to go. I recall at a later date after Jacko the boar had gone to the slaughterhouse another pal used to drive his tractor and trailer into our hamlet for his boar to service the sows, but one day his tractor was travelling too slow and the boar knocked down the tailgate and off he went chomping his teeth smelling out his mate to be.

great video Phil brings me back to a time when my mother kept a few sows i loved working with them they would spend all summer at the end of our lane with the cows. They made a mud hole in a little stream it must have been pig heaven

Making bacon from the straw to the butcher on your farm. lol We also use to throw just a shovel of black dirt in the pens for them to run their snouts through. And a big kiss at the end of the video by the hog.

Years ago in Gurteen it was explained to us by Robert Butler that the boar is a left hand thread we often had to check the sows to see if they were in heat

Hi both, another great video, I’m sure you were successful there with the AI, just a quick tip, you can also sit on their backs facing the rear end whilst serving them, Robert from Deerpark will give plenty of advice if you need it, good luck, great channel.

Hi Phil, I never had any luck with the Ai personally used to be £30 for 2 bottles and no guarantee, I bought a boar never looked back since if only 3 sows but I can more or less guarantee when they’re in heat the boar catches them every time💪

I was looking at e at the pigs when you have the AI done you live the straw in her for about 5min and you bend the end of the straw.

I wish that I could get some Gammon from you I miss Gammon boil in the bag that I used to get in the UK but alas I now live in Australia and they don't do Gammon in a Bag. I loved Gammon and Pineapple x

Phil anybody that says that about animals is an idiot and I just don't pay attention. I have said to the ones that say they need to be in the wild where they won't be abused what about the predators that rip them to pieces while they are alive and they go quiet and don't respond. We raise animals in the best way possible and give them a great life and turn them into quality products for people to enjoy and that's exactly what they are intended to do.

I did not see much sign of Father Phil around the pigs. I am of the notion he would prefer to inject life into the old massy 1200 rather than into the gilts. Anyway great team work between yourself and Liv she is a well grounded woman.You are a lucky man not every man is lucky enough to win the love of a beautiful woman.
