In the early 80's I was working on a housing development. They were logging a wooded section. They used log skidder that had jaws on it. It had another jaw type thing that held the tree. The machines literally bit the trees off. They were taken to an on site chipper that had along table. The chipper had a crane cab with a boom with a grabber like your excavator . The operator would pull the tree into the chipper. The chips went int open top semi trailers. They were hauled to a Homasote plant 40 miles away. The chipper could take up to a 24 inch tree. The most amazing part of the whole system was the chipper ran on two twin diesels . When they chut them down at lunch time ,they would still be winding down when lunch was over a half hour later.

They used sniper type bunchers here years then had to switch to saw head bunchers because the OSB mill can’t use wood that is cracked or shattered when it is snipped in very cold weather.

Seems like the grapple should have some kind of teeth on the inside of the grabber claws for nonslip grappling! 🤷🏼 ole Kevin is going to town on the trees, stacking them up! He’s pretty fast on his cutter! I’ve seen you do your share on the skidder before Chris, a few times!

Nice ! See your getting the handle on using your grapple chris! Hey you can use your thumb on this machine with the grapple right? If you can grab further back on the logs and drop your thumb on them and we'll give you more control on them chirs! Give it a try. That kind of what out here we call a logging shovel it well help you pick them up and move them in to piles!

So is a lot of the pond development for stockpile purpose for farming? Im no farmer but it makes sense to have a personal reserviour. The more ponds is more insurance for crops. Just wondering if thats part of some of these ponds. I make mention of this in light of current drought conditions in other parts of the country. That bunch of trees sure looked nice out there.

The only reason the trees were allowed to grow is that it was too wet to get machinery in there to prepare and seed the land. This way, with the pond they will be able to irrigate in dry times, and thee crops will have full sun all day.

Hey Chris, with a grab like that, just find yourself a nice piece of tree, grab it and you can use it as a rough grading beam. I work in demolition with sorting grabs and we use steel H beams to level out massive area's very quickly. Also remember the rolling over the grab on piles of brush, you'll pick up a lot more
@NFSGamerful
@NFSGamerful Жыл бұрын
I'm also fairly certain looking at this that the grapple doesn't get enough oil pressure, it should hold way better on the end of the tooth
@Dontworryboutit315

He tried that around the 25 minute mark, it overpowers the rotate on the grapple and turns but I agree with you, doesn’t seem like it has much pressure
@NFSGamerful
@NFSGamerful Жыл бұрын
@@Dontworryboutit315 ye noticed it later as well, the trick is in the angle you hold it, but it's probably a single rotation motor grab, so it'll pull through it a lot easier. I'm used to the Zijtveld sorting grabs, they're amazing tbh

Even though you say that the wood in those trees is not very goo; it will still burn and can be processed into fire wood. You don't have that business, but you could find someone who does and sell the trees to them. That way you won't have the trouble of burning them and cleaning up the unburnt stuff.

If you had a Steelwrist quickoil coupler with that grapple you could lose the thumb and gain some weight savings. Also, then you would be able to pull stumps with the right tool and still easily switch to the grapple when needed. That indeco grapple looks like a great heavy duty tool!
