Watching the wheat harvest on this arable farm in the Netherlands is like stepping in to a time machine and travelling to an era when the harvest was done at a more leisurely pace and with smaller equipment. The experience was certainly nice for one afternoon and I don't envy the combine driver without a cab, air con and in the dust!
Harvesting is carried out by a New Holland Clayson 1540 of 1970s vintage. Two different generation Ford 8210 tractors cart the crop to the main farm building where it is stored. A Ford 5000 and trailer act as a back-up. This three men team is able to safely gather in the wheat crop and enjoy themselves.
Many thanks to Mr. Bakker and combine driver Rick van Regteren for allowing me to film this scene! The farm is located in the North of the Netherlands in the Dutch province Groningen. I have tried to retain as much of the original sound as possible with a little tasteful music added to create the right atmosphere. I hope you will enjoy this mini docu.
