Yes, but I think with Wemby they need to be very carefull, because he wont wait 5 years to get a competitive team like Duncan or Parker, in fact I see him forcing a trade after his 2 years contract if Spurs try to "build" a team with only drafts, I dont see Wemby staying without a major trade this season or the next.

From a Spurs fan pov, the last 10 years have been a ride, to say the least. From the Redemption of beating the Super Team Heat in 2014. To the slow and painful downfall in the mid-2010s thanks to a particular superstar with bumb knees. Then they smack into the earth with the end of the playoff run in the shortened 2020 season. Now that Wemby has won ROTY, I can say the Silver & Black will remember this era for better or for worse, but the future is looking bright, and someday, not now, but someday, a Sixth Ring is coming to the River Walk.

Yes me too. I’ve been a Spurs fan since 93. Was also delusional. Thought David Robinson was better then Michael Jordan. Even argued with my older brother as such till tears and fights ensued. College bball was king in 97 when i graduated HS. I wanted to play at wake forest cause Duncan. *Ended up JC then SDSU. But my favorite player going to my favorite team. On a fluke *Robinson was hurt the season before so the team was lottery* Getting Duncan and watching the Spurs historical run was magical. We praised Pop. Playoffs 23 straight years. His down for 3 seasons and we say he’s lost it. lol 🤣. This video shows they drafted better then ok. But Khawi situation made them keep tossing great rookies till they Landed the right Rookie Wemby. It was a gamble. But you can’t win drafting Dejohntay Murray’s and pushing them.

The past 5 seasons have been tough for us. Similar to the mid '80s to late '80s. Dark days. Then the '90s came and we took off! Into the '00s to mid '10s. Hope the Spurs will get back again soon with Wemby/Vassell!

Great timeline. I almost forgot how great my Spurs were. Can't look at the past and what could've been. Just to the future with Wemby. This coming draft is going to be critical to the rebuild and how fast the Spurs rebuild will take. 2025 draft will be even more critical with 4 potential first round picks and even better talent draft. Can't wait to see how the next 10 year timeline will look. Hopefully a couple of Chips and WEMVPs. GO SPURS GO!!!!

I legitimately wouldn't be surprised if the spurs are a playoff team next year, they have a competent front office and coaching staff who have in the past pulled off a similarly quick turn around when they drafted Duncan and won a title title in Duncans second season this is a different circumstance as that team was comparatively much better suited for that given having David Robinson being a star player in his own right but I do trust them to make the right moves as a front office generally like outside of the handling of the kawhi situation the spurs have handled the vase majority of situations better than any other team for the last 2 decades that alongside wemby inevitably developing his game should lead to the team atleast do better than this year

That Chris Paul bank shot broke my heart.. felt like they could've taken it that year. Duncan was the glue of the team. That cheap shot from Zaza changed the trajectory of this team but I'm happy with the rebirth of the Spurs. Wemby is amazing.

I get that the Dejounte trade in large part helped them in their quest to tank for Wemby, I just hate that he was the collateral in order for that to happen. Wemby and Murray would be an excellent duo. His developmental trajectory in San Antonio was going above and beyond what he's been in Atlanta, which just was a bad fit from the start.

It wasn’t just him. It was lamarcus and demar the year prior, it was Derrick White mid season, then Jacob poeltl next trade deadline. That’s a starting line up for a borderline playoff team. But spurs knew they were in purgatory and they knew about Victor in 2019. They planned for him.

@@jaywarvz it’s not even really a sacrifice. They just traded current assets that weren’t winning anything for more future assets than any other team not named the Thunder. I would argue spurs picks (3 Atlanta 1sts, bulls, raptors, hornets, Celtics and Mavs way in the future. Okc has a bunch of clippers picks and Balmer is always going to pay for stars to stay relevant.
