Thanks for posting this video. I think it is just what I need. I have a tumbler that cleans and polishes spent brass from the range. I already have the input select created and it works in node red in very similar fashion as yours. When the timer ends, it shuts the outlet off that powers the tumbler. Being able to watch the countdown will be really helpful. Thanks again.

Hi Will, With the advent of voice assistants in Home Assistant have you looked at voice automation of timers ala' Amazon Echo, Google Assistant or Homekit, etc?

Thanks for this. I use an Aqara magic cube to set duration (CCW twist + CW twist -) and tap to start the timer. TTS with Amazon polly to announce timer start and timer end. I wish I could set the duration with a voice command but I have found no way to have Google set a numeric value. Would welcome any ideas on that.

I really enjoy these more details/focused videos especially the focus on node-red. What keyboard shortcut are you doing to get the nodes to appear? I'm still dragging and dropping from the sidebar.

Is it possible to set this up for homekit, like saying “turn on light for 10 minutes”

Thanks Will, as someone who just started using HA a month ago, my biggest confusion was that I started creating my helpers in the GUI and after seeing videos where people use editors, I assumed there would be files under the Config folder that contain the YAML. But I could not find any. I assume this now leaves me having to use the GUI for helpers, correct me if I am wrong. Also, "Show Code Editor" in the Helper screen would make it easier to manually convert.

you can either use the gui or the yaml; I prefer to use yaml because it allows me to keep things separate and I can label with comments so I know what they do. I personally split my yaml (I've done a video about that) which means I have a separate file for booleans, numbers, text etc and they are all referenced in the main configuration file; but you can put them in there directly if you like

@@WillSurridgeTech Understood, but I was looking for a way to convert my Helpers to YAML... After some research, I found a hidden folder under config called ".storage', the Helper data is store in files of the type names as JSON, that can be copied/pasted into an online app to convert "Json2YAML". Warning to others, do not edit those files, that's why they are in hidden folders! Use the GUI to remove the helper and in my case, Visual Studio Add in to edit/create the YAML files.
