I always wondered what the strange hill was when I used to drive past it regularly. I was always an ardent Time Team fan, so to manage to help as a digger was literally a dream come true. Everyone was just so approachable and 100% invested in the dig. It was such a relief to know that Time Team was genuine and not simply staged. Happy days.

@@YooZherName Yes I was so excited. I was involved in local archaeology and a friend phone me to ask if I was interested. I chatted to quite a few of the team about different aspects and they were just so nice. The Time Team episodes are exactly the same as being there, it's all genuine with the arguments continuing off camera too. It still seems like a dream. I still have my blue wrist band to remind me.

Every so often I have to stop and appreciate the absolute artisrty of these episodes. The mood-setting music, wistful, amusing, or exciting; the editing, explaining beautifully what's going on and what's being talked about, and bringing a sense of spontenaity to everything. It maintains the genuine-ness of eything. And then, who assembled the cast? Because they did amazingly! People who are both excellent in their field and fun on camera, who are just so GOOD at making everything easy to understand. Half the fun is the chemistry between people. And I don't know how it was done, maybe its something everyone's learnt over the years, but everyone is so natural for being on camera. And Tony is just this really artful blend of standing in for us the viewers who need things explained, acting at a little bit of an antagonist almost? Not genuinely haha but as sometimes a force of doubt or impatience, he adds a kind of conflict that's still always friendly and good-natured and doing that is not easy, that could be annoying and obviously it'll be entirely subjective as to whether it succeeds but for me and I think a lot of people it really does, or he and the show wouldn't be so beloved and have continued so long. This stuff that can be difficult to consciously notice but that effects the entire experience of an episode. I knew I loved Time Team as informative and fun and something from my childhood, but watching it now I'm happy to really appreciate that it is so genuinely well made all-round ❤

Good grief, most likely the Anglo-Saxon palace they seek is directly under the footprint of the existing mansion which clearly sits in a place of prominence going back many centuries. I was surprised they didn’t seem to explore that likelihood. If that house has a basement could they not at least try to find something?

I always love the rivalry they get going between John, Stewart and Phil (and some of the other archeologists) and Mick sort of has to referee. I do kind of miss that about Time Team.

I think that Stewart gets a bit slagged off too often, he often has really good insight that guides the team in the right direction, I wonder if it's because he is not an "Archeologist"? but is trained as a surveyor, or maybe he is an archeologist, but not the dig in a ditch kind? I love these shows.

It's mad to see the quality of the images from the ground penetrating radar compared to what we have available today. Also having to rent the helicopter for what a simple drone can provide nowadays.
@toomanyopinions8353

It's important to note that while useful and cheaper, a drone still can't give you the perspective that a helicopter can. There is nothing like doing something yourself.
