I grew up with the original Timex Marlin. I am now 75 years old and remember buying these at the corner drug store. I bought them throughout my time at university in the 1960's when I was a poor student. I have a soft spot in my heart for these. I'm not at all uncomfortable wearing a watch with a 34 mm case diameter. They still feel good on my wrist. I can see adding one of these to my growing watch collection.

The experience was a fiasco as the USPS couldn't find their rear end with two hands. The seller experience wasn't much better. The watch arrived with the wrong packaging and the plastic stand was broken. The watch was okay. I love the fit! This size doesn't intrude upon movement and nothing makes a dial pop like acrylic. The strap is garbage. I am smitten with the watch. ✌🏽

No worries, the result is that you love this watch ! And yeah the strap sucks, like the ones you find on seiko's sadly, but it's easy to replace...

I have several of the vintage version of this watch I would have to say I disagree about what you can wear it with. I wear mine with jeans all the time. They did a nice job recreating the look of the original.

With a beautiful jean and a shirt of course ! with a jean and a Hoodie I doubt it. but hey, taste are in nature...

The domed acrylic glass, sunray champagne dial and hour markers definitely give off vintage vibes... the size is perfect too, keeping in line with mid-century case sizes... I agree, the strap needs to be swapped, but a milanese might detract from the overall vintage look of the watch... I'm still partial to the Marlin with California hour markers... I definitely agree on the Seagull movement being the best value automatic movement from China, I've got my eyes on a Seagull 1963 chronograph (with sapphire glass and lume) as being my next possible watch purchase. Glad to see your video suggestions back in my KZfaq recommendations!

Lucky you !!! superb watch and great size ! Try to find yourself a good quality leather bracelet (secret tip : lamb leahter is wonderful and no need to break in), you just swap the buckle of the original and that'll do the trick ! You'll see the watch is comfy and you can wear it by dressing it down and up 😉.

The screw holding the winding mechanism on my Marlin came off after a month of use. Got it working again (thought I broke the mainspring 😅) but it's not something anyone should experience from a new watch. Gonna wear it till it breaks again and then see what to do next but this is the last Chinese movement I'll ever own.
@thehandsontime3 ай бұрын
Hi, tell me, why didn't you send it back ? You have a warranty ! no ?
@matricious3 ай бұрын
@@thehandsontime I contacted their customer service and was referred to their repair centre in Italy but I didn't want to ship it before my local watchmaker had a look at it. He diagnosed and fixed it in 5min without charging me a thing but noted that it was the last "American watch" he would work on. Go Swiss or go home seems to be message he tried to tell me. It's too bad that the only watches that have the Marlin's vintage case design are the Junghans Max Bill and Seiko SJE085 Alpinist. There is really nothing else like it on the market today.
@thehandsontime3 ай бұрын
I understand, nice guy ! he "did not charge you". Come in Paris they will charge you just for touching the watch ! Well everything finished well, glad to hear that. I tend to stay in the Swiss and Japanese waters myself, i think he is right, but there is always exceptions, french and german watchmaking is safe as well I would say.

@@thehandsontime How do you manage to service your Japanese watches? Ordering and replacing a NH35 is fine and dandy but when you go to the 6R line and above it gets tricky. Do you stick to Seiko's official repair centre or did you actually manage to find an independent watchmaker willing to work on those??

Hi thanks for the tip !
@jacksugden8190 Жыл бұрын
Oh come on, this watch was assembled in Italy, it’s as fake as you can get for a so-called vintage style Marlin with that movement and crystal, the crystal was off putting, to high, the dial was the wrong colour, as was the font and hour markers for the 1965 model it depicted, that strap was rubbish, only good thing going for it was the case, as the 65 model was chrome plated.
@thehandsontime Жыл бұрын
thanks for sharing your view on it, personaly i like it ! the dial is really looking good on my wrist, i wouldn't go for the ancient one. cheers ! :).
@jacksugden8190 Жыл бұрын
@@thehandsontime I was interested enough to go and buy a chrome one, it’s alright, was nice to compare this with my 65 model.
