Here I emphasize the engine being a interference engine. It is really important not to move the camshaft sprockets independent of the crankshaft and to double check your aligning marks before rotating the engine.
Setting up the timing belt and marks is crucial.

Yes way too tight should have 13 to 14.5 mm of flex in between the two camshaft pulley with 22 pounds of force

I had a shop do a timing belt for me and when I got the car back this is how it sounded….same night I broke a cam shaft. Luckily was able to replace and call it a day. But usually it would have bent a valve

Sounds like you got it way too tight that’s the winding sound had loosen mine up because of that it will wear your belt out super fast and when not if it does you will be replacing the entire engine

Shouldn't the passenger side cam be lined up with the dotted line on the timing belt? Not the letters? I have a Gates belt, I believe like yours, and when the sprocket is on the dotted line there are 40 teeth between the two cam sprockets at TDC. I'm curious if you adjusted later or if this was intentional.

I start by making sure the alignment marks are accurately aligned camshafts and crankshaft, then I turn to the lines on the belts.

It's got to be a little tight but not too tight I got an 85 also I need cosmetic work but the engine is a beautiful thing yeah during my divorce she said she wanted to leave I go by all means please but my Z stays and it's been faithful ever since

i wanna know about the distributor rotation direction on a v6 vg30 1989 . is it Anti clockwise or clockwise.

I’m not sure I understand your question. The firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6… and remember the distributor rotates clockwise… looking from the top the rotor will be spinning counterclockwise

@@OfficialKittenNation does that mean when connecting the spark cables on the distributor.. lets say TDC on plug 1 up. n the distributor rotor points at 6 on the distributor cab while set on spark plug 1. cable for spark plug 1 goes to 6.. 2 to 5. 3 to 4, 4 to 3, 5 to 2 and 6 to 1.

Start checking coil pack, coil wires, spark plugs especially #6

This is not how you tension the timing belt. The tensioner spring should apply the tension, rotate the engine clockwise (looking at it from the front), stick a feeler gauge (I forget the thickness) between the tensioner and belt and tighten the tensioner nut while you continue to hold clockwise torque on the engine. Then check the belt deflection per procedure. I recommend lock tight on the tensioner nut but it is *extremely* important to torque it to the correct torque setting. You'll have to lookup the specs on the belt deflection, feeler gauge, and tensioner nut torque. The belt should end up significantly looser than a v belt or serpentine belt.

I didn’t finish with the procedure. The first part is what I was explaining here. Then after rotating 2-3 times and back to TDC then you use the feeler gauge. Feeler gauge is 0.35mm

I didn't do any of that, I just threw the belt and tensioner on, cranked down on the tensioner until it seemed about right, put the covers back on and drove it.

On the vg30 the tensioner spring does nothing to tension it. You could remove it and it would affect nothing
