Honda garage quoted us $2,200 to do timing belt on a 2010 honda odysey. Two days later they called said they were slow and wanted to get some more timing belt jobs so they said they could discount it to $1975. Two days after that they called and said they could do it for $1750. I got the entire kit with water pump for $219, and did it myself. If you take your time its fairly easy. Go step by step.

I rotate my engines to make sure. It takes 2 minutes to check this way or hours if you are off one tooth and don't check first

Todd, on this engine, for the alternator, the back large diameter bolt snapped off, leaving some of the thread inside the hole. Is this alternator mounted straight to engine block or is it mounted to a bracket on the engine block?? Any help would be appreciated!

I NEED TO PURCHASE ONE OF YOUR CRANKSHAFT REMOVAL TOOLS ASAP. Finishing up tensioner and belt, alternator and valve covers. I bought the Odyssey at 120K and since I'm at 298,000K I may as well do the timing myself since I'm there.

You said to support the engine when you take the mounting bracket off. But how are you supporting it when your raising and lowering the car as you worked back & forth between the top & bottom taking the belt stuff and then the water pump off. Or are you not supporting the engine the whole time?

Timing belt kits should be replaced every 95K-100K. The kits include timing belt, water pump, idler bearing, tensioning bearing and hydraulic tensioner.

Sorry for the delay, the timing belt hydraulic tensioner is the difference. at the 14:15 minute mark you can see where the hydraulic tensioner is, and you may or may not be able to see the end of it sticking out of the timing belt cover. May need to take it apart to see which one you need.

How do you turn the engine to TDC if it turns out not to be after you take the timing belt covers off? Is it possible to just use a 19mm socket and rotate it clock wise?

Astrit M I am assuming the timing belt is still on. Yes you can use a socket and turn the engine over to line up the marks.

+Mario Moreno Yes, if you put the timing belt on and it runs great, really cool. If it runs rough, poorly, then likely valves were damaged.

Pull the heads and inspect for damage. You don't want to spend all that time and money, get it all back together and find out your valves have kissed the pistons. This engine is an interference engine.

No you DO NOT have to take off the upper intake manifold to do the timing belt. If your going to do the valve adjustment then yes you have to, to remove the vavle covers.

Tough to say what is wrong, but really should take it apart again and double check timing belt tensioner, timing belt marks. Make sure nothing is loose.

Dude. For some reason my tensioner doesn't have a hex bolt to grab onto to loosen the serpentine belt. Just a hole for something. Am I missing something here? I'm fucking frustrated as all hell.

DumpinMyGun My belt tensioner doesn't have a 14mm bolt to grab onto. Just somewhere to put a T80 wrench head in. And I can't put a T80 wrench in because it to close to the tire housing. WHAT THE FUCK!!

DumpinMyGun I believe that star hole will allow you to put in a 3/8" drive or 1/2" drive ratchet head and/or short extension if needed to allow to you move the tensioner. Assuming you have a 3/8 or 1/2 inch ratchet to try.

DumpinMyGun i know this might be a little late. That pulley your looking at isnt how you release the belt tension, that fastener your refering to is to take off the pulley. Look underneath the pulley and you will see a 1 inch bolt that is a 14 mm. Put a 14 mm wrench and loosen the tensioner. You will see the bolt from underneath the car easier.

just not even thirty minutes ago i squeezed a piece of pipe in the middle of were tbe engine and transmission meets into the flywheel and just loosened the bolt text for the video but didnt need that specail tool at all

after u install your timing belt u should turn by hand to recheck all your timing mark before you crank or start your car for a safe side of damage your engine.
