Chapeau bas for HUGO!! To overcome a tower of power and consistency and tactic as Timo, Calderano had to be really keen and sharp! He's really shown maturity here.. he's definitely carrying most of the western hopes for WTTC 2019!

E o mais importante, é. ESTAR COM A CABEÇA NO LUGAR. A maioria das partidas ele se perde totalmente sendo batido facilmente por adversários fortes e principalmente os fracos.

Nope. He is a good player and maybe reaches the half finals when everything runs good but winning wttc 2019 will be a chinese thing as always.

It's very difficult. I believe even that chinese team is more strong than before. LGK LGY, WCT, FZD, XX. not to mention ML who is injured. All them with chances to beat Hugo.

Even though Hugo won this match and while i'm a big fan of him, i'm still not sure how i feel about the ''hit as hard as you can'' way that he plays. There's just not much smart or tactical play happening because of this and TT is all about variation in placement, speed, spin, power and shot making. I'm just not fully convinced his strategy is a great recipe for success, though he has been proving me wrong so far with his win over FZD and now against Timo.

Daniel H in watching the last set, it was evident that Calderano was exploiting the weakness of Timo's backhand against his strong forehand and backhand attacks. His strategy is not just hitting the ball as hard as he can everytime, he just sees it fit as it is effective against people who prefer moderate but consistent attacking strats.

The way Timo lost to Hugo is kind of similar to the way Timo lose to Ovtcharov and Gauzy, they all know how to counter Timo's topspin

Хуго в последнем сете прям совсем хорошо сыграл. Хотя Тимо порой хорошо его гонял. Больше самому надо было играть. Контровик больше, такой стиль игры.

Calderano was attacking timo s backhand and timo was targeting body shots. Calderano won as timo s backhand is weak compared to his forehand.

Timo has to realise he is old now so he cannot keep up with the offense of young players. He needs to focus on his blocking a little bit more if he still wants to play competitive

@Lonestar Papa ur right what i meant was that timo cannot keep up with both the speed and the spin of younger players so he needs to focus on his blocking game a little more. Putting topsin on the ball at the right time is very difficult for him now.

I was wrong about Hugo Calderano. I thought his serve was illegal only because he hid the ball with his arm, torso and head. Nope, he also hides the ball in the palm of his hand with his fingers. Word of advice to the officials: call the service properly illegal or petition the ITTF to dispense with the rule entirely. That's what you're there for... ya know... keeping the players honest.

Completely right, at 8:40 you can see that only a little bit of the ball is visible to us. And the camera angle seems to be from a higher point than Timo. Which means he can't see it at all and the hand is most definitely not "flat", like it's supposed to be. I doubt the way he holds the ball, he can put any spin on it, but the rule is there...so he should follow it. ps.: I don't think that's why he won against Timo this time.

@@leonawroth2516 I know when I play against someone who hides the ball well, I can't play as aggressively off the serve which gives my opponent the advantage and opportunity to control the rally.

@@pappaflammyboi5799 totally agree if he hides the contact of the ball, but I was purely talking about his hand when throwing. As far as I know this rule is only to prevent, that you put spin on the ball with your hand.
