The Porto Metro (Portuguese: Metro do Porto), part of the public transport (mass transit) system of Porto, Portugal, is a light rail network that runs underground in central Porto and above ground into the city's suburbs. Metro do Porto S.A. was founded in 1993, and the first line of the system opened in 2002.
The network has 6 lines and reaches seven municipalities within the metropolitan Porto area: Porto, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde and Vila Nova de Gaia. It currently has a total of 82 operational stations across 67 kilometres (42 mi) of double track commercial line. Most of the system is at ground level or elevated, but 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) of the network is underground. The system is run by ViaPORTO ~Wikipedia

One of these trams visited Melbourne before delivery to Porto. It had to be kept on a straighter route as it couldn't go around the tighter curves on our system. It was an interesting ride. Nice footage in the video. 🙂

Oporto es una bonita ciudad con tranvías. Muy buen vídeo, aunque te ha faltado poner imágenes del tranvía por el puente metálico sobre el río Duero. 👌👏👏👏👏👏Saludos cordiales hasta Portugal desde España.

Electric vehicles that don't need batteries and that take up relatively little road space to comfortably carry a lot of people from point A to point B. What else could an ecologically-minded citizen ask for?

Nice trams, well filmed, - lousy day for filming. - It's taken them 4 years to build/lay a 'spur' 400yds long of new track in our town up a road, - and it still isn't open yet, - that's British contractors and workmen for you.

Hello, Porto Metro system uses 1435 mm gauge, similar to metro system in Lisbon. It runs with 750 V and this trams were made by Bombardier in their factory in Portugal.

The train from the beginning is very strange with the separated cabin that is not integrated in the first car but instead is connected separately. I wonder why they chose this variant and what are the benefits for it. Also I'm curios of the time efficiency of this metro-trams. In many European places the trams are slowed down in the center or areas with heavy pedestrian traffic. I really liked the rainy segments of the video!

It runs underground in the center and runs separate from car traffic.

Having the cab and the first bogey on a swivel, creates a very flexible tram. It has a lot less overhang in corners compared to trams that have a rigid connection to the first passenger compartment, so curves an be tighter. The power-to-weight ration is also higher (up to 8% higher in fact). These trams were originally designed and built by Socimi in Italy, a company that built and designed guns and trams (!). Socimi dubbed them 'Eurotram'. The Eurotram wasn't the success Socimi hoped for though. To my knowledge, only Strasbourg in France, Milan in Italy and Porto ordered these trams before Socimi went bankrupt. A few cities showed interest, but the slow closing doors were a bit of an issue for most of them. ABB Tranz (later Bombardier) bought what was left of Socimi's rail division in the 2000s and had the Eurotram in their catalogue for two more years (as Flexity Outlook E, where E stands for Eurotram). They fulfilled the orders originally made to Socimi by the aforementioned cities, but didn't rake in any new orders for trams of this type though, and quickly came up with a more traditional successor.

Loudest thing in existance. I swear, even a fighter jet doesn't compare to how obnoxiously loud this thing is. I'm Portuguese and have been using the Metro for years, now having to use it 3x a week for work purposes (flexwork). It is a terrible feeling seeing this particular model (there is a newer one) show up, because you just know you're in for a noisy, uncomfortable trip.

I'll take you someday to my third world shithole country in Latinoamérica where I came from before coming to Porto with my family, over there, there's no metro, no train, no security, there's nothing.. As soon as the taxpayers money arrives to the government it's automatically STOLEN... There's no social investment, there's nothing but poverty, violence and corruption. Just text me in advance to schedule the flight. *O português têm que dar mais valor ao seu pais caralho*

No, by the contrary, it looks more like a tram than a metro. A good example off similarity is the tramway off Strasbourg in Alsace (Elsass) just the colours are different.
