Agreed. He's probably my fave (though I do think Daniel Craig is doing a pretty good job making Bond the slightly more ruthless character from the books as well). Shame there were only two with Dalton though. Really revitalized Bond as a bad ass as well as the suave ladies man, I think.

+Crab Bisk 100 % agreed, it's hard for any actor to have those qualities combined like you mentioned (edginess and smoothness, sophistication and seriousness) at the same time, but Dalton delivered. He doesn't throw smart-ass remarks every second, he only delivers them when it's necessary (or when it makes sense). Sean Connery and Daniel Craig have similar qualities in the latter part IMO, but even they can't compete with Mr. Dalton with the overall delivery.
@petertimowreef90858 жыл бұрын
+Crab Bisk Interesting opinion, I've never heard anyone name Dalton as their favourite before. I'm watching them all again in chronological order at the moment and now I'm looking forward to seeing what you ment. For me personally, I like Moore the best. I know he's considered a bit of a clown, but that's why I like him. I also don't like Craig at all. I'm sure he's an amazing action-hero actor, but not a Bond in my opinion.

They wanted Dalton since 1969, and his first movie as Bond was almost two decades later. And THEN, they wanted him back when the series was revived in '95. All we got to show for it was two movies (still great films, though). I wish they'd actually made better use of him in his prime.
@johnnyprothero96409 жыл бұрын
That was the funny thing. Before they cast Connery they wanted Moore. Then before Moore accepted the role. they then wanted Dalton. but he turned it down because he felt he was to young for the role. canuckle head Fully agree, I loved both The Living Daylights (1987) and Licence To Kill (1989). In fact I would say The Living Daylights is my second favorite James Bond movie(I think I must have watched it over 20 times by now, and I own quite a bit of the merchandise associated with it), and Licence To Kill is my fourth. Also many times when I read the James Bond novels written by Ian Fleming, it is Tim Dalton I see as James Bond in my imagination. The same goes for John Gardner's books as well. Part of me wishes that Tim Dalton had gotten a chance to lend both his 1980's likeness and his voice to James Bond in a Video Game adaptation of either of his movies or a new story when EA had the license from MGM and Eon Productions. A photo of Tim as 007 from Licence To Kill was however used as cover art for the 1993 Sega James Bond video game, The Duel however.

He was apparently approached earlier for the role (according to his bio in Wikipedia) but he said he was too young (about mid 20s) and he did not want to take over from Connery because it was too daunting an undertaking for him. Bond to me is suposed to be fit, atletic and cunning, and also as Flemming portray him in his books, Bond needs to be grumpy and misogynist. When he strikes back at his enemies he has to have a bit of hatred in his heart, I think Dalton shows that pretty good in his acting!

Tim was a superb bond and he deserved at least 3 more bond films to cement his input on the franchise.He deserved far more recognition as bond and he was far more realistic and true to the ian fleming novels..He was better than moore and brosnan in my opinion.

Timothy Dalton is one of the greatest guys to ever play Bond

I haven't watched any of the Dalton ones but I hear such great things, I need to get on that. I think he's one of the better bonds even from the select few clips I've seen him in :D

+Nicholas S. You wont regret It, just beware of the great tone shift from living daylight to licence to kill.They're like nights and days but he's good In both of them :)!

Personally I'd watch License to Kill first... and if you like it, then you get to see him do a proper old school Bond film in TLD...

Timothy Dalton, in my view, was the best. I have some of the books, and Bond has not made a single quip or said "Shaken, not stirred". Timothy Dalton hardly ever says this, which makes him the closest to the books and therefore the best.

Dalton was a truly fantastic Bond..A dark brooding Bond...In my opinion far superior to Daniel Craig.🎥💯

I wish Dalton got to do a third because he's 2 for 2 in my opinion. License to Kill really is the vengeful, off the reservation Bond that we don't get with any of the others, and I'm including expressionless Mum's boy Craig.

Dalton was great. I would love to see him as a Bond villain in a future movie

I love the hand gestures Carey Lowell gives the bartender for "Shaken, not stirred".

Craig is nothing but an eye candy six pack ab Jaaon Statham/Jason Bourne wannabe. Dalton is perfect as Bond for despite his gritty portrayal, he is oozing with class, charm and sophistication. None of these qualities are found in Craig.

I always loved Timothy Dalton's portrayal as James Bond. I remember people's bitching and moaning back when he was chosen as OO7 but I always thought he was great in the role but I read where Dalton actually didn't want to be Bond and only agreed to do two movies to essentially "fill in" until they found a more permanent choice for the role, which turned out to be Pierce Brosnan, and even then he portrayed Bond only *four* times while Moore had *seven*.

Before my time on Earth is over, I plan on watching all of my favorite James BOnd movies on the Big Screen at least once(or more as my time and money allows of course). Tim Daltons two films are the two most highest after the first six movies from the 1960's and The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).

Lets face it. Every actor who has played the role has had some fans in an uproar saying they weren't the right choice for the role. Even Connery. Dalton was a great Bond. Their is only one I never liked. LAZENBY.

+greenrefrigerator You're wrong/misinterpreted very strongly here... if Dalton didn't want to be Bond, he wouldn't take the part. He didn't agree to do only two movies, stuff happened which made it take 5 years to talk about a new film, and by then he didn't want to do it anymore. There's a difference.

Giradox is correct. Dalton was supposed to star in more Bond films. He had already agreed to it the only thing holding up more films from being made was legal shit between 2 studios. By the time it was settled, which was many many years later Dalton had moved onto other things. Pierce Brosnan only got the role because Dalton didn't want to do it. (Although Brosnan did turn down the role before in the past just like Dalton did even earlier).
