Revegetation trials currently being undertaken in Queensland promise improvements to make on farm revegetation projects cheaper and easier. Traditional methods of planting in riplines require expensive, time consuming maintenance and can result in weeds that slow site capture. C4 are currently undertaking trials of new methods thatr promise to reduce work and cost, meaning that revetation of poorly performing parts of the farm and claiming carbon credits becomes an economically viable option.

This episode underscores what a brilliant resource this channel has become. A thought-provoking analysis of what at first glance appeared experimental only to be revealed as a solution based on traditional farming techniques. Thank you Mr Thompson.

Another great video (thanks, Tim) in bringing something new to our attention that can revolutionise (or, as you said, industrialise) revegging on a large scale. My first thought was that with 5.K views in 11 months, the subject isn't likely to get enough traction ... but that's my tiny mind syndrome in action again. It is and has been gaining significant traction for a good many decades as Dr. Miyawaki has (prior to his death in 2021 at the ripe old age of 93) exported his methods across much of Asia, Europe and the Americas, although sadly perhaps not yet on a large enough scale. Digging a little into the topic, when it was attempted on Sardinia (large Italian island, so a Mediterranean climate) on an area of land where previous attempts to revegetate through other methods had failed, there was limited success in that between 61% and 84% of the newly planted trees had died over a period of 12 years but, that said, "the new biocoenosis was able to improve without further operative support." That death rate made me think about Geoff Lawton and how he has described how trees plant on swale berms grow relatively slowly (and may require irrigation) until their roots hit the rising water table and then the growth is explosive. So, in a way, swale permaculture and the Miyawaki methodology have much in common in that it's about deep root establishment. That made me think that if the Sardinian experiment had been better adapted to local conditions, perhaps being on contour or being less dense, then that death rate might have been less and growth faster. Speculation on that experiment aside, Miyawaki's methods have been demonstrated to grow the miniature forests "10 times faster and become 30 times denser and 100 times more biodiverse than those planted by conventional methods" and need to be a favoured tool at local, regional and national goverment level. Ever thought of going into politics, Tim?

Gave you a like Tim. I was thinking rows "ON CONTOUR" would be better. What do you think? Townsville.

It would make sense to contour if the property was on a decent slope. Check out the video I did on contours a few months ago

Good info but but a pity these carbon credits will ruin everything for the small farmers...as intended I guess looking at every other "green" policies.

It's more just economics that work against small scale farmers.
