I gotta say, after playing guitar in bands for over 50 years, I had given up all hope for today's music until I ran across this movie. The band was actually playing their instruments and acting like a real band from the good ole' days. No computer generated music, no synthesizer noise, no clowns with microphones jumping around on stage screaming like wild monkeys, and actually something you could "ROCK" too. An outstanding movie that really says allot, and an awesome sound track!!!

This is the song that made me fall in love with Ska! I played trumpet when i was in senior school and I think this came out when i was midway through my 3rd year at seniors so i loved the horn element. Speaking of brass/wind instruments can we just appreciate how they found some way of getting into the song because normally you're stood in place not moving

I first saw this movie when it came out to theatres. I literally had no idea what it was and was just randomly at the theatre wanting to watch a matinee. Chose this one cause I saw the movie poster at the theatre and was like... Is that one of the Michalka twins (aly and Aj for those who don't know)? I gotta check out this movie. I was the ONLY person in the theatre. And I LOVED it. And here I am 13 years later still in love with this movie. Still in my top 5 after all this time.

I know this movie is like 10 years old or so but I just found it a few days ago. Probably due to it's notoriously bad marketing. I am 58 and don't even recall exactly what I was even doing 10 years ago. I was reluctant to even watch it thinking it would be another American Idol, high school musical, Glee, Disney - typical obnoxious mundane amateur sounding garbage pretending to be music. So, I gave in and watched it because there wasn't anything else to watch. I have watched it now in it's entirety 2 times in the last 3 days. Up until now School of Rock was my favorite band competition movie this movie has taken over the top spot easily. In a perfect world they would have won hands down. Unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world. The band that won had a very boring performance. Glory Dogs probably earned a few points on original song because many song competitions award points on originality. However this band even though the song wasn't original their composition was. They made it theirs. They also included audience participation and energy. Two important characteristics of a great performance. So, because we don't live in a perfect world sometimes internal politics dictates who wins and who doesn't. Maybe a judge or 2 went to the school that won or maybe the judges were all tone deaf and didn't know squat about music (as with American Idol). Who knows. I just know it would have been a better ending to have them win but thanks to David Bowie (his last movie) and social media the better band was acknowledged and did win. I miss you David Bowie thank you for completing my playlist with your decades of gifts to us.
