Thank Tim, for a good presentation, I am somewhat puzzled by the apparent dissimilarity between the content and the title of this video. The title says "Do Motion with the Micro820 PTO Pulse Train Output Instruction", but the content shows a PWM instruction rather than a PTO instruction. Am I missing something here? It has to do with the more common question. People usually ask, what can you do with the Micro820s PTO output since they saw it in the specifications They don't yet know what a PWM is. Also, when people think PWM, they usually think some type of motion control such as step and direction. The Micro820 can't do that. Tim, could this be used to specify a burst of a certain number of pulses? The clearpath servos use burst mode, so this could make for a neat motion controller.

Awesome Video! Tim, I know some of the Stepper Drivers have an output option for Tach(Pulses per revolution). Can this me like a simple encoder to determine distance traveled and rate of speed? Thanks!

The PTO, like most simple steppers, don't use encoder feedback. Some of them have stall detection but for the most part the "assume" that the motor has moved to the correct position.

Please list the hardware. What stepper motor are you using? Stepper amplifier? What encoder? The "Stepper Trainer" link is not working.

The PWM instruction block doesn't exist in my Connected Components, and the instruction manual says to use MC_Power,MC_Move_Velocity, and MC_Write_Parameter. Is there something that I am missing here?

PWM function only works with Mirco820 controller. Other Mirco800 controller use a PTO channels to make same fuction as PWM. PTO output impules, as well. PTO works with MC instruction blocks. I am not sure, but I feel MC series functions give you more accurate control on stepper motor or servo motor when your motor is carrying a heavy load.

@@BuddyNoNo Yes, PTO with the MC Function blocks can be used for more accurate and flexible control in motion control applications. You can set Acceleration, Deceleration times, Axis busy status and etc with MC Function Blocks. PWM can be used for basic motion control applications, but I don't think its a better option for position control.

No, the controllers are designed for two different purposes. Most notably a CNC controller will be able to do circular interpolation.

It is doubtful that there is a motor out there that would work without a driver, the amperage will be too much.

@@henriqueteixeira1236 Yes, you are right, I didn't catch the W in the 2080-LC50-48QWB. You need a B there. I don't think there is an option to get you there. Might check some of the 3rd party encompass partners.

@@TimWilborne I should of used more words. I'm looking for a UDFB that would send a continuous pulse to a stepper drive. I'm using a pwm UDFB that I received from Rockwell but it seems to be a dirty signal and doesn't keep the motor at a constant speed. Your thoughts would be appreciated

@@molickdm I ended up using a teknic servo that was able to read a pwm signal to vary the rpm. Works perfectly

@@stephenrider5045 You're right!. I meant use PTO for position control. PWM works fine with velocity aplications.
