The amount of time and effort I put into playing through the fire and flames on expert in guitar hero.... and Breslin comes through chewing gum and just makes me look like an a$$hole for thinking I was legit for finishing dragon force in guitar hero. 🙄 😔 I started playing real guitar because I was so good at guitar hero..... and now I will stop playing guitar after seeing Breslin completely slay this track.

She hardly looks at the guitar when playing because she learned to play while reading the music. She is now back and is in a band called 'Spin Twice'.

I only discovered you guys through your reactions to Tina S's covers, and I love your reactions. On June 7, 2021, Herman Li from DragonForce reacted to Tina's Cover of "Through the Fire and Flames - for your own viewing pleasure you might want to take a look at that; it's interesting how a wonderful, experienced guitar afficionado can appreciate, respect ... and feel no need to ng diminish a young artist in any way. When DragonForce was in France, he tried to connect with Tina, but to no avail - but in this video, he makes a public appeal to Tina, that he'd love to collaborate with her in any way she would be comfortable with - I thought it was the kind of appeal, which if Tina heard, might make her think about coming back into the public eye ( or at least, meeting with someone she respects ). Edit: I didn't see the next comment after mine, about Herman Li, until I posted this, but I will let this stand nevertheless.

Tina S was trained as a classical guitarist from the age of 6. At the age of 13 she started playing the electric guitar. She recorded this song when she was 15. After she quit uploading to youtube she went to college in Paris (she's French) to study. She recently graduated and registered a business in France in audio production. So perhaps she will be back soon.

Not sure if she will be "back" to playing guitar on KZfaq or anywhere else at public sight. I dont know if she plays guitar for herself when she is alone, but I barely can imagine how it is possible for her for not to have any (I mean ANY) urge to open her play to any public at least sometimes. So I assume she doesnt play guitar at all. Not only at public, but totally abandoned the instrument. Why do I think so? Because i can not imagine a sportsman working "backstage" to stay at Olympic champion level without any participation in any sport event ever, even at Olympics. I dont want Tina to be next Bobby Fisher. If she doesnt like to go with music, well she can be happy any other way. But as a musician who doesnt have any intention to connect with any listener - then his (or her) playing is a form of solo-medidation and there are a lot of other ways to medidate without having to play instrument. I dont think she quit exclusively because of Trolls. I have heard that there was an Austrian little girl prodigy, who was playing chess and then became GM at an extremely young age and could make a great career but she married and quit chess totally forever. That is what happens in life. Even if you have an insane talent - there are no guarantee that you dont loose interest in what you are doing. There is a possibility you start getting joy from completely other things and there we go.

@@Dutch1961 I would be happy to be the first in line for any of her "possibly upcoming" uploads or recordings. I also would be very happy if all of my text above turn out to be a fluke and incorrect. But personally I can not look at exposure of her mail address as a "promise" or pre-installation. The fact she opened herself for global verbal communication unfortunately (for us as listeners) is not neccesary an indication of her going back to her guitar show. But at least its a sign of her being comfortable and happy with her own life right now.

I think she is not sticking her self value to the outer world. She doesn't have to prove it. And I guess she doesn't like the 'as an artist 'you have to do this ...and that (like 'you have to be on youtube, you have to publish, the word needs your talent)'. If you don't do it, it's crap'. She is just in her inner world, doing this stuff ...pushing it as far as it goes ...to a incredible level. Like other people going to the gym to push their limits, she is having a good time with the guitar. She doesn't want to be creative in song writing or playing in a band ...which would also be really hard to do with the stuff she does (timing in a band at that speed and precision level ...really really hard to find people and get along with them).

I understand your curiosity about whether Tina can compose her own music, but does it really matter? Maybe that's not her passion. We have plenty of famous artists in the US that perform music written/composed by other people. Maybe not as much in Rock or Metal, and probably more so in Country music, but I would assume songwriters and music producers are needed across all genres. World renowned classical musicians and opera singers, including Bocelli and the late Pavarotti, are all performing music composed by others. They just do so at a very high level. You guys are just discovering her, but those of us who have followed her for a long time no longer care about her age, gender, or what she's performing, we just miss her playing. For me, when she plays a guitar (of any type), magic happens. I feel it even in the videos when she's very young. People get mesmerized and drawn in when she plays. I just don't feel the same thing with a lot of the other young artists that are always mentioned. Regardless of what Tina chooses to do, I believe I can speak for most of us in that we support whatever she chooses and just want her to have a happy life. If she chooses to sit on stage with a guitar and play Christmas carols, I will gladly pay to be there. For now, I'm grateful for the few videos we have. I've enjoyed your reactions and your analysis. Its fun watching the two of you at the same time. You're a lot more enjoyable to watch than a lot of the 'reactors' I've seen.

Interview Tina S Q: Hi Tina, what was your first guitar? Tina: My first guitar was a classical guitar with which I started the classical music conservatory at the age of 6. It was an Alvaro. Q: What are your influences? Tina: I don't really have an influence. There are of course bands and guitarists that I particularly like like Van Halen, Slash. Q: What is your training? Tina: I started with a classical course by enrolling at the age of 6 at the conservatory of classical music. At the age of 13, I decided to turn to a more rock universe by throwing myself at the electric guitar. Q: What have been the most significant stages in your early career so far? Tina: It's a mistake to talk about a career for me. I had a classical training, then thanks to this training I was able to get started more easily in the electric guitar but I have not yet had the opportunity to meet any particularly striking facts. Of course, the fact of making a buzz on the internet with Van Halen's solo and of trying to follow this buzz with my second video is very impressive. But for me, I have not yet started my career as a guitarist. Q: How are the lessons going with Renaud Louis-Servais? Tina: He is a very pleasant teacher, very professional but who manages to combine pleasure and work. He is very rigorous, asks me to give the best of myself, and it is beneficial since it is thanks to him that I undertake pieces of a level more than correct for my age. It is a real pleasure and a chance to have him as a teacher. Q: Considering your level, is the work more focused on musicality and vocabulary rather than on pure technique? Tina: I will say that my work is broken down into several phases. Until now, we had worked particularly on the technique in order to improve my game. Currently, we are working a lot on musicality so as not to forget that we must first understand what we are playing in order to make something feel. Q: Any news from Wolfgang Van Halen who said in a tweet that he wanted to meet you? Tina: For now, no. Q: After Eruption and this version of Patrick Rondat's interpretation of Vivaldi, other big pieces of music that you are working on? Tina: I prefer not to talk about upcoming songs just so as not to put unnecessary pressure on myself. I prefer to keep the surprise until the last moment. Q: How do you deal with becoming a KZfaq star with millions of views? Tina: The entourage is very important. It is necessary to have a solid foundation and this foundation is represented by family and friends. We must not take the big head, stay down to earth, and above all try not to give yourself unnecessary pressure by continuing to have fun and not think of making millions of views but simply playing for my own pleasure. Q: Do you feel you have a special mission because you are a girl and you operate in a very male dominated environment? Tina: No not particularly. It is true that it is a pleasure to succeed in being seen in a world where men predominate. It is important to show that a girl can play without more weaknesses than a man is able to do. Q: What is your favorite guitar? Tina: My favorite guitar is the Vigier with which you can see me on my videos. Q: How is the collaboration with Vigier going? Tina: There is no particular collaboration. However, I was invited by Patrice Vigier to visit his workshop. It was a great honor to meet him but there is currently no collaboration with Vigier like with no other brand of guitar. Q: Do you have any plans to play in a group? Tina: At the moment no. I concentrate on a single work on myself in order to have the most complete game possible. Of course, I'm not putting aside the possibility of being part of a band in the future, but that's not the case now. Q: What are your next projects? Tina: Like I said before, I don't like to talk about things to come. It puts particular pressure on me, and I prefer to keep them to myself so that I can play without waiting. Thank you for your answers and good luck for the future!

My thoughts: Tina is classically trained starting with acoustic guitar with music of the great classical composers like Beethoven and Vivaldi as target. That's where her technical capabilities were developed, that's where her forte lies. As a normal teenager growing up with that technical background in mind she also felt challenged to perform some of the modern metal songs like Eruption and Through the Fire and Flames. Knowing that she is close to graduate Law School I think she feels that that is where her true calling lies. She put her full dedication into this and obviously had no regrets of putting her musicianship on a side track. Now to Uncle Gij's comment that a musician is only complete if he/she composes his/her own music: that's a pretty dangerous remark because you disqualify a large sector within the total music scene, being the classical music. I'm talking about opera singers like Luciano Pavarotti or Maria Callas. I'm talking about professional musicians being part of the greatest symphony orchestra's in the world. Their sole job and calling is to perform music written by others. And still each and everyone of them belongs to the Greats of this world.

Would you Ask that question about a classical interprète ?
@AnthonyKellett
@AnthonyKellett 3 жыл бұрын
Quite. There are classical pianists that spend a lifetime playing Bach, Mozart, Beethoven et al; and they're praised and adored. This is sufficient, for me. The Loner makes me weep. It's as if Gary Moore is resurrected. It may not be fast, with countless notes, but it's stunningly beautiful and heart-wrenching. In that respect, it requires a special kind of skill.

Which question?
@AnthonyKellett
@AnthonyKellett 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheCurtisMagicUncleGijShow - First, I can't speak for the questioner, only my take on his point. Second, in all fairness to yourselves, you made it crystal clear that your comments were in no way a criticism of Tina; and I'd not consider them as such. It's all good. 👍🏽 However, all that said, it's just interesting that you ask "what can you do yourself...or are you just...?" For those of us that listen to extensive classical pieces, by lauded musicians, the question would never even be considered, for the large part. Segovia, Julian Bream or John Williams wouldn't typically face such questions. I've never heard them posed to Lang Lang, Jacqueline Du Pré, Ann-Sophie Mutter; or Pavarotti, for that matter. All of these "regurgitated other people's product". As for your speculations about her reasons for stepping away, they seem prefectly reasonable; and it's quite possible she didn't have (or lost) the passion to pursue it further. I hope not; but it's certainly possible. All in all, this is good 'reacting' and intelligent analysis, which I enjoy far more than much face-pulling, followed by "Wow!... Please like and subscribe.... See you tomorrow" Keep up the good work! 👍🏽

@@TheCurtisMagicUncleGijShow - I’ve been giving this some thought. I don’t waste my evenings! 😊 It was prompted by my own points, regarding great classical musicians and, as a result, consideration of what makes them great, rather than merely good. In classical music it comes down to technique (even for good ones) but there’s more than that. It’s interpretation of very clearly defined music. Phrasing, timing, knowing when one can be more free with those and when not; somehow able to get into the mind of the composer and trying to communicate that with an audience. Of course, there’s a huge amount of subjectivity involved, in all that. There’s also popularity that may be based on all manner of not directly related factors, which gain a foothold (looks, backstory, right time, right place etc). I’m also cognisant of an ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ factor, which can sustain an entire career. If you ever get chance to revisit Tina’s ‘For the Love of God’ cover, first listen to Vai’s original version on Passion and Warfare. Personally, I prefer Tina’s version. This is entirely subjective, but I prefer her phrasing, her sweeter use of harmonics, a seemingly cleaner sound, and various other elements. Moreover, what I believe you’ll discover is that it’s not exactly a ‘cover’ of Vai’s track but rather a variation on it. Such variations are creativity and art, certainly to the player; and can be satisfying enough without feeling a need to compose. Of course, classical musicians aren’t as free to do this, with the standard repertoire (unless they specifically call it a variation), whereas Tina’s interpretation of Vai’s work is unique, in numerous ways. This doesn’t negate Vai’s exceptional achievement in creating the work, nor his incredible rendition of it. That should always be recognised and praised. Many will view it as definitive and untouchable. I can’t rationally argue against that. Similarly, many may claim Dolly Parton’s ‘I will Always Love You’ is definitive. Some Whitney Houston fans may take a different view and even claim her version as ‘all her own’, because of what she brings to it. One more thing, if you watch her play Malmsteen's 'Arpeggios' it strikes me that she's using it as a practice piece; the same for Vai's Paganini. It's as if her teacher has said, "Play this, without looking, and you've mastered arpeggios... then we'll move on". In contrast, For the Love of God, Altitudes, and The Loner, are full of heart and soul. She appears to feel those as if they’re the real deal; what the practice is all in aid of. I could go on, but this is probably tedious enough. I just had to express these thoughts for consideration.

Tina explains that it is only the technique and the performance, the difficulty, the challenge that interests her. She was invited by Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Dragonforce, and she never responded. She doesn't want their comments. She refused the very important spectacle of Ellen DeGeneres which receives the greatest actors and which would have made her known to all Americans, that does not interest. She refused to participate in all contests and television shows.
