Tina's take of "Unfinished Sympathy" is great, and gives this feel of a fast and suspenseful 1996-era thriller, with fast cars, beautiful women, and a gorgeous hero to save the day.

Most relevant comment. This is an interpretation by a soul singer from a different era who represents the feels in the songs the way that she feels them. That's soul music.

Sorry, but simply I don't understand those who has problem with Tina's take of the song. It's simply breathtaking. It's match to her in any meaning, and she can show her voice in the meaning of power and octaves range. If I'm listening this song, I feel like when I put out my head from a car window at 120km/h speed.

I have never heard this before - normally not much of Tina Turner's stuff i like; but this is close to the song that suits her voice the best. Hard edged but soulful; different to the classic original but not worse.

The original Unfinished sympathy is something special. It is still one of the most sexy songs. I like the original voice better, and massive attack hits all the right notes.

To me, Tina's version is more "personal" and "Earthly", while the original has a more universal, "celestial" quality. Nothing wrong with either - although having said that, I like the original more.

I do like the original better but I think it's quite flattering that Tina thought it was such a great song that she would cover it. Her version is pretty unique. It sounds like the Nellee Hooper 12" version which was housed.

Love, love, love, love, LOVE this interpretation. In fact, I like this version slightly more so than the original.

Y'know, I love Tina, and I love Massive Attack, but I don't know if I want them in the same cookie.

Continuing on - Still, I think the original is classic and near perfection whereas this sounds like it could have gone through a couple more production revisions. I think a mix of the original with parts of this version (namely the spoken part) would be sensational tho! Love ya TT and MA!!! :-)

@TeenageWildlife I have 2 disagree. The instrumentation on Tina's is far better. And her vocals have much more energy and emotion. Sounds more suiting. The original is great but was holding back too much, especially with vocals. In summary: Massive Attack knew what they were doing when they offered this song to Tina for her Wildest Dreams album

Is there a way to take the accapella from this and play it over the instrumentals of the Massive Attack version?

I like the arrangement of the original more, with real string section, and samples. Both singers brought the A game though. 😎

I am a big fan of Tina Turner and I simply ADORE Massive Attack's "Unifinished Sympathy", so I was very disappointed with the resulting union of the two. I think the problem is that they stripped the song from its elation and did not replace it with anything substantive. Just listen to the cover by The Six ft. Jasmine Thompson. You may not like their cover version, but you gotta admit that they've included something distinct there. Here, there is nothing of the kind. Oh well! Sometimes things just don't work out....

Never heard the original before Tina, then i searched it and I was dissapointed. Tinas version suits me better. After listening to the original, I missed the power vocals Tina puts in this, the strong notes, the force of nature voice, the soul. Eventhough this seems to be a classic tune for many, imo Tina improved this song and It reached a much higher level.

Way more visceral. Sounds like she is crying over a open wound. It is almost possible to feel the blood coming out from it.

Have to agree with all that have posted so far. Not a bad cover at all but the original simply cant be beaten. This version could have been much worse.

Just enjoy her unique power and soul with a great song and recreation of the sensitive strings...It's flattering to 3D et al that their song is given wider appeal to those who may not put anything beyond AOR on their disc player...Not bad at all..Certainly not butchered...Imagine if they'd given it a disco treatment!! er...let's not imagine it!

Tinas 4.2 octaves vocal range just eats the original vocals for breakfast. The original, as good as it is, its just a little girl singing softly compared here to a damn Queen. As far as vocals go this is untouched.

This is butchered, nothing compares to the original. And I love Tina, too! But I have to tell the truth. This is one of the songs where "the new take on it" simply doesn't work. Only proves Massive Attack had created an everlasting masterpiece back in 1991.

Tina is great singer. She´s not the issue with this track. In theory, the song should work for her voice. But, whoever picked this song for her, made a big mistake. But, the real big problem with this track is: Once you have heard the original recording, everything else sounds pointless.

Well, can't blame her for experimenting. It's cool that she was trying to expose mainstream people to some brilliant music. I guess maybe she was trying to do something besides a straight cover of the original. Tina is cool but to be a star like that your ego has to be massive so she probably couldn't allow herself to do a straight cover.

Tina is a legend, but this cover is off. It's one thing to put your own spin on the song, but she takes all of the subtle mystery out of this song. Her and Shara Nelson are just too different in their delivery.

I disagree, VioletFem: the Massive Attack version it's a whole another thing. Don't misunderstand me, Tina Turner's voice is great:it's simply not enough blues for this song.

It's not tina's fault it's the music production that's horrible. it's way worse than masive Attack's version.

I love Tina but most of this sounds like the vocal track is out of sync with the music, like it's a half second or so off. ALso, I feel the vocals are too obtrusive - like someone doing karaoke with the mic up too loud in relation to the music. And just my opinion - not a slam against Tina or anything, just my opinion. I do really like her spoken part near the end, and I like her take on the "Now I got to know much more" part which is unique and not just a simple redux of the original.

As much as I love Tina Turner and respect and give her mucho kudos on overcoming what she has and what she has achieved. HOWEVER... if you are a Massive Attack fan, especially a devoted one, you most likely will be offended by this atrocity. It would be exactly like if Justin Bieber covered Pink Floyd; true Bieber has sold tons and achieved so much and has a huge following, but it’s simply just wrong.

The problem I have with this cover is that Tina sounds too anxious, too excited. It requires a more gentle hurt and ache than she is putting in. It doesn't really sound like she is a "soul without a mind" or "a body without a heart". I do like the instrumentation, but Tina needed to tone it down more.
