"the song is about someone who goes out into the desert until night" -- living in a desert on the other side of the world and not understanding a word of the lyrics, it absolutely makes sense. The constant droning heat, harsh dry air, and beat of lengthy transport across wide meandering stretches of arid land are captured in a sound that nearly paralells the beauty of the enviornment it's written about.

+Araphel Khafre tinariwen DO play their native music - but the inspiration comes from all over the world - i mean, the guy who founded the band was a touareg refugee for most of his childhood and being musical he gathered the cassetes which he could play at that time - among others some hendrix too - this is what came up thru them

This group came into my radar a few years back and I absolutely love their stripped down spacious sound. It's hypnotic, haunting, and they can really jam. One can also hear the power in their lyrics and this is another fine example of how music is truly a universal language. I came across the show in Seattle too late to make it but hoping I can catch them live someday.

Formally established in 1982 at a festival in Algiers by Ibrahim Ag Alhabib Alhassan ag Touhami and fire Intayaden, Taghreft Tinariwen, which means tamasheq "nation building" has played an important role during the Tuareg rebellion 1990s, spreading messages of hope and resistance to their compatriots. Originally, the three friends are playing on an acoustic guitar they share, before meeting an orchestra of Tuareg musicians, voice of the Hoggar singing in Arabic and offer to Ibrahim his first electric guitar. In Tamanrasset, they give concerts accompanied by three women. After this period of exile in Algeria, Ibrahim, Intayeden Alhassan meet Alhousseini Abdoulahi ag, ag Kedhou Ossad Mohammed said "Japanese" in the training camps in Libya. The group is expanding its new members. Lorsqu'éclate rebellion in 1990, they returned to Mali with weapons in hand and slung guitars. They then find themselves integrated into the Popular Movement of Azawad under the command of Iyad ag Ghali to help them finance the purchase of musical instruments.

I agree usually the likes and dislikes make sense but this is a marvelous music performance as soon as I saw they only have three lights and 80 something dislikes I assumed it was because of what they're wearing and my instinct is usually spot on so many uneducated and ignorant people out there just missing out on all kinds of beautiful worldly things

So, some time ago, I caved and watched a vid of two kittens wrestling (I'm not a cat fan) and it was adorable. It had dislikes. And someone in the comments asked your same question. Someone replied to it saying, "It's so that the same video doesn't keep coming up in their "suggested" videos. I don't know if that works or not. KZfaq's algorithm fails there, it should cycle lots of other VERY similar vids before one you've already seen comes up again. By the way, dislikes are up to 379 today. (Yeah, I spelled out "BTW", guess my age, haha)

enrique lopez The Growlers covered a Tinariwen song and they called it Drinking The Juice Blues. I read an interview where their singer Brooks said that he thought it was a song from some band long gone from the past so he just made up jibberish lyrics in english and they released it as their own. Later he figured out Tinariwen is a modern band and has been giving them shouts out since then.
