Hi, I'm 11 years old and I have two betas(Siracha and Quinn) , a turtle(Mathew) and five common goldfish(koi,clay,Merlin,jazzy, and cheese). I actually saved them from....well myself. My grandmother brought me a turtle years ago and i had NO idea how to take care of it. It was in a bucket and then a 10 gallon. The water was never filled up and there was no filter. When I actually started getting into aquatic animals, I got to work. I explained to my mother the issue and she let me upgrade my tank. I put him in a temporary turtle tub with, filter, basking lights, and filled it up with water. (It is temporary because we are working on getting him a 50 gallon.) He is now on a healthy diet and thriving. Now the story is similar to my beta. He was in a half galllon ( 🤢 ) and then a one gallon. And after two years he is in a split tank with my sister's beta with a, heater, filter and SPACE. (The tank is a ten gallon and there is a split at five gallon) now to my five common goldfish. My grandmother got me 8 common goldfish and put them in a ONE gallon tank. And by "surprise"(that was sarcastic) three of them died. Once I realized how bad of a fish abuser I was. I went to amazon and brought: fish food, a filter, decor, etc. and set up a ten gallon (that was originally my turtles). I put those fish in there and now they are growing and thriving.(I'm aware I might need to upgrade their tank lol) My grandmother is now no longer aloud to by tanks.

Good job!! FYI you need 30 gallons for your first goldfish and then 10 additional gallons for every other that you have. So if you had 4 goldfish you need 60 gallons.

@@ava276 they are common goldfish! So im pretty sure they souldnt grow all that big. But im not sure. I will be ready to upgrade anytime. Thanks for the advice! ✨

@@seankelly6754 look up full size of common goldfish. Your fishs' organs are going to continue to grow, even if you don't upgrade your tank. They will die slowly and painfully. I don't think you want that to happen. They can get to a bit over a foot long. Yes that is for real, but if you did any research you should already know that They need cold water, high filtration, and lots of hiding places. If you provide those things your goldfish will not only outlive you, they'll provide entertainment and enjoyment the rest of your life.

This channel has inspired me so much. About 6 months ago, I was hoping to take care of a betta fish as our family had never owned pets before. My original idea was to put him in a 1 gallon with gravel that looks like Fruity Pebbles, but I immediately changed my mind after I watched your video on how to set up a betta fish tank. My betta is now going strong in his planted 10-gallon fish tank with "ohko stone" and "cherry shrimp" to keep him company. I have adopted him from a PetSmart and his colors have livened up so much ever since he left the store. Even though I was originally going for a female, I just fell in love with his spunky personality. I have fallen in love with your videos and love to see your channel grow. Thank you, Chris, for saving fish lives and educating people on the topic. :)

Speaking of “Ohko Stone”, I really need to find somewhere locally to get some stone/hardscape for my 60 gallon that I’ve been waiting to set up since February. 😭😭 I also lost a “cherry shrimp” to a big ol’ fat momma guppy the other day, so all those jerks had to be relocated to a different tank. My shrimp are safe and sound in their own tank now 💕

"The Good Doctor" is an American show on the ABC network about the adventures of Dr. Shaun Murphy, a neuroatypical surgeon (high-functioning autistic savant - think Doogie Howser meets Rainman meets Dr. House) learning how to adult as a surgical resident. On the episode where they introduced the fish bowl, Shaun Murphy originally picked out a fantail goldfish with his then roommate that they named Hubert. The goldfish died within a couple of days, and was used as a metaphor for Lea's failures in life. Shaun took the fish to the lab at work, and ran to the pet store with Lea to show the store owner the test results - Hubert had "Ichthyophthiritius multifiliis, a common goldfish parasite picked up in pet stores." The pet store owner gave him store credit to pick out another fish, so they then picked out a platy fish because Lea thought it was cute and Shaun agreed with her choice because platies are "very hardy fish; they are difficult to kill." Here's the scene if you're really bored and want to see it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j5mpqaZ-3KyWd6c.html. That was two seasons ago, so I'm sure they have moved onto different fish. But yes, this guy knew enough about platies to say that they were hardy but didn't know enough to buy a tank with a filter and heater. It is a pretty decent show, though, one of the few network shows I actually keep up with. In addition to having pretty decent stories, the show is one of the most diverse shows on network TV, and they are able to do it without having a "Look how woke we are!" feel (no "very special episodes" or :"diversity" plot lines, that type of thing). The show is an American remake of a Korean TV show, and the Executive Producer is Daniel Day Kim, so they have more Asian characters on the show than pretty much any other non-Asian centered TV show. They also have a very high percentage of women surgeons as main characters, and have multiple doctors and nurses of color, as well as a diverse age range of doctors and other staff. The show also makes a point to hire neuroatypical actors and actors with disabilities to portray neuroatypical and disabled parts. They work with consultants to make Shaun's portrayal of autism as authentic as possible without falling into autism and disability tropes.

Hi- I’m 12 years old and have 1 male betta, 3 angelfish in a 45 gallon, 2 discus in another 45 gallon, 10 neons with the angels, along with a pair of platies and one snail, and some black skirt tetras in with the discus along with some ghost shrimp- I actually started having tanks when I was about 7 but the way I kept it was terrible, I had glow fish that ended up eating each other alive and the tank looked like a kale smoothie. Honestly now I just feel terrible about that because those poor fish had a short and honestly terrible life. Now I’ve had these 3 tanks for about a year and have only had 1 neon die right at the beginning of the angelfish tank, and all of them are either about half or fully planted. I’m honestly proud of myself that I could do this, and it’s a really big accomplishment for me sooo- yeah! Thanks for like- literally everything Chris!

I'm 11 years old and I rescued a betta from a friend. The betta was being kept in a 0.7 gallon tank and I decided to ask my friend for the betta and they agreed! I now have the betta in a 1.6 gallon but with all the advice I've gotten online I will be getting a larger tank soon. But in comparison to how the fish looked before vs now it looks much healthier and happier!

Hey Chris, I found you channel 2 weeks ago while researching on fish care so I could get my first tank. I bought the same 3.5 gallon overfill filter which I later saw in your earlier vids. For now I have silk plants and a small, plastic rock formation.(everything is smooth, not sharp, and natural colors😎). However, I don’t have a heater yet. I did put fish flakes in the tank and left it to cycle for 6 days and then I got my fish........... a betta(don’t kill me) I got a female, elephant ear betta. Her name is coral. She was a pale pink with blue under tones but once she was in the 3.5 gallon she turned bright red and blue. I’m guessing she had ammonia stress which is why she was flushed. Ok ok, so to make up for putting my betta in a 3.5 gallon with no heater, we are moving rn. We are between houses and staying my my grandparents. But by winter break we will be moved in. I wanna get a 10 gallon for her and I wanna try some real plants. I have some questions: 1. What are some easy plants for beginners? 2. She has a white spot on her stomach and I think she is ready to mate. I want to get a male, stars n’ stripes betta and name him Monty. Do you think that is a good idea because they might breed and while their colors match well idk if that’s a good idea. 3. If I don’t get just the male betta extra, Coral will be my only centerpiece fish in the 10 gallon. I would also put in either 3 Corydoras or plecos and either 7 remynose or cardinal tetras. Do you think this is good stocking or should I dumb it down? 4. I bought a water syphon and for my first water change when I was cleaning the pebbles there was an insane amount of fish flakes than came up. There water was like a snowstorm. If I get the big tank I’ll use flakes because the plecos will help with this but for the meantime it’s very inconvenient. So what affordable pellet food should I get for my betta instead? 5. Im going to get a light colored sand substrate for most of the tank and in some spots I will use dark colored pebbles. I want to have larger pieces of rock that are affordable and easy to get. Is it possible to get good rocks from a landscaping store or even Lowe’s/ Home Depot? Ok that’s all my questions pls answer Chris🙏 P.S. I will get a heater for the 10 gallon. P.P.S. Thank you so much for your videos! I had betta fish in bowls as a kid. When I wanted one a few months ago your videos helped me. I fishless cycled a planted 10 gallon and after 4 months I now have a beautiful betta and 2 snails. I couldn't be happier!

I've got a Nicrew light in one aquarium, it's doing a great job. The tank has a lot of plants, an Ohko Stone, and zero Cherry Shrimp in it.

The first one, I would give them a chance by trying to see/offer buying a bigger set-up. We keep forgetting that everything tells us at surface level that it's 'the right tank' for goldfish/beta. I would approach it as 'aww cute fish, hey wouldn't be fun to work on a planted tank together for them?'

I set up two tanks this weekend. I didn't have any okho stone though, so I had to use seriyu for my nature tank. The other tank is my cherry shrimp tank.

@5:33 depending on the thickness of the glas: A high quality tank of this size should have more than thick enough glas to not be effected by any Kick, even if you really try... unless you are the Terminator
