In this video, I'll show you how to create molds in TinkerCAD for silicone, epoxy, etc. This can be used in 3d printing CNC machining and any other automated manufacturing.

Seems like some extra steps. If you duplicate the box half with the pins. Align it with the top the way it was before you flipped it. Then make the dupe'd box with pins a hole. Use that hole to cut out the pin holes in the other half. Much quicker and almost no chance of miss aaligning the pins. Thank you very much for the video though. I learned the hide feature so I now understand how to select hidden objects. Extremely helpful.

Any tips how to not make a box but same shape object (just a little bigger as a housing for the object? like an exterior not too thick with the same shape and adding supports.

Great . I used to a 3D artist/animator too. I can so resonate with this . Greetings from Mindful Multiverse 🙏🏽🌱

Thanks this helps a lot, but with a shape like an icosahedron how would you make a hole to pour your mixture into? Since it has a pointed top a cilindrical hole might probably ruin that pointy top feature or would it not? if so what would you recommend instead? thanks again!

Glad this helps! Would you mind emailing me this question so I can respond in more detail? It requires the extrude tool from fusion 360 with "extrude from object" selected. I can send you screenshots of the process in a couple days as I'm getting windows loaded on my PC and I'll be about to run fusion from there. Thank you for watching and have a great day!

Am I missing where the pour hole is?

You need to make the holes for the pin slightly bigger

Probably also some bevel on the pin edges could help too.

How would you fill this mold . How would you get all the air out ?

Air can form through bubbles and escape through the pour hole in the top.

I know this is an old tutorial, but I pretty much followed these steps, ensured my holes were the exact same size as the pins...ad they don't fit... will making the pins a fraction of a mm make that big of a difference or should I just file them down and handle it that way?
@guncla

When printing or using cnc machine, it's always important to calculate some tolerance (usually a difference under 1mm between pins and holes on a FDM printer) to make them fit. A little bevel on the edges of the pin could help too

The pins need to be slightly shorter and smaller diameter than the holes, 0.2mm maybe (OR the other way around, the holes slightly bigger than the pins).

Good note however, i would recommend doing that in slicer settings since it is preference based setting and not a mechanical component. Thanks for commenting!

@@avramplager1953 what slicer are you using that lets you enlarge or shrink just the pins?
