Sims 1
In The Sims 1, Sims wear Normal clothes by default. It is not possible to purchase Normal outfits. The Sims: Hot Date added the ability to visit community lots to buy new outfits for different categories. Every category of clothing has its own clothing rack. Your Sim can browse and try the outfit before buying it. After choosing an outfit, The Sim will go into a changing booth to try it on. Then they will pose in front of a mirror. After some time, the clerk will ask you if you want to buy the outfit. If you say yes, The Sim will change clothes right on the spot and follow the clerk to the cash register. and physically pay for the outfit with real money. A Sim that is on a date can buy an outfit for their companion. they can choose an outfit for their date to try on.
Sims 2
In the Sims 2, Sims must go to community lots to buy clothes if they want to have new clothes and change what they're wearing. Sims can buy clothes for other ages, and for the opposite gender. Like in The Sims 1, they can buy clothes immediately, or they can first try them out.
When a Sim picks an outfit to try it on, they will take it from the clothing rack and will go into a changing booth and pose in front of a mirror. After you decide what clothes to buy, your Sim will go to the cash register to pay for it. A funny detail you might have missed in The Sims 2. If you go to try an outfit in one of these dressing rooms, you'll notice there are cameras on top of them. The cameras go down and look at your Sim while they're changing.
Sims 3
In The Sims 3, players have the ability to customize the pattern and color of every piece of clothing, they can adjust almost anything, straight from their dresser. But With Sims 3: Into the Future, Sims have the option buy outfits and have a shopping experience. But they can only buy clothes that are displayed on mannequins. They will purchase it right on the spot and change their outfit. They can also choose to randomly display an outfit on the mannequin from these categories. After they've seen it on the mannequin, they can choose to buy it. In the Sims 3, Sims can only buy clothes for their own age and gender, so when they approach a mannequin, the mannequin will change into an outfit appropriate for that Sim's age and gender. Sims can also purchase a custom outfit. This will open CAS and works the same way.
Sims 4
In the Sims 4, Sims can plan any outfit they like, because everything is already available in their dresser. With The Sims 4: Get to Work, Sims can go to a community lot to try on and purchase only pre-made outfits on mannequins. When trying out outfits, like In The Sims 3, they will change right on the spot. If you decide to purchase the outfit, your Sim will be automatically charged and will change in those clothes.
With Sims 4: High School years, Sims can now go to a thrift store.
At ThrifTea, Sims can buy clothes that they wouldn't be able to access trough CAS. Sims can put together up to 5 custom looks. After creating your look, you will be automatically charged, and the outfit will appear in your inventory. You can sell the outfit on the new Trendi app.
Trendi is a platform that Sims can use to sell their thrift store outfits or buy outfits created by other Sims.

I know buying clothes in Sims 4 is pointless but it's still so nice to have the option. I'm glad there is a browsing system now, but I wish they would go to a changing booth when trying on clothes in a store and once deciding to buy they should go to a cash registry or maybe the clerk could sometimes come and ask if your sim wants to buy the outfit they tried. Instead the sims just change the outfit right there and buy the outfit right there which makes the animating and attention to the details so lazy. Sims 1 and 2 really had those sweet details 😢

I feel like the Sims 3 gets a pass, because even though there could have been a clothing store, where items could be bought and then customized. I think it was easier to showcase CAStyle with all clothes available to customize at home.

The Sims 2 tunes were the best, and both Sims 1/Sims 2 had excellent features. Sims 3 with the open world was so much fun to play. I'm still playing Sims 2 and 3 now.

Yeah I miss how Sims 1 did it where there are racks for different clothing types. That would feel more realistic if they did that for Sims 4 too, or even further like a rack/shelf just for shoes for example. Because I love building malls in my games, it would be cool to have like a shoe store, a jewelry store, etc. Instead of just one mega clothing store.

sims4 has its moments where it genuinely shines. though a lot of the time these moments are tainted by the greed involved in the game (example: the rodents that came with my first pet stuff are actually really cool and quirky, but i can't enjoy them because of all the drama involved with that stuff pack)

A little addition to Sims 1 is that in CAS you can access more outfits than the wardrobe. In CAS you can pick out of all 3 body types (skinny, fit and fat) but then your size gets fixed and you can only pick outfits that go in that category.

Sims 1 wins for the different clothing rack designs for different outfits, Sims 2 wins with the overall experience. Sims 3 and 4 are eh, because why go out and buy clothes when you can get a new set of clothing from your dresser? Fun fact: You can also woohoo in Sims 1 changing booths!

I used to love going shopping in the sims 2 and I really miss having to pay for outfits instead of having access to everything. Sims 1 and 2 just felt more alive, there was even music playing at the store!!! I guess the sims 4 gets points for allowing sims to wear clothes from whatever gender they want (even if they only added that later).

In the 90s and the early 2000s it was a right of passage for teens and young adults to do the dirty in a changing booth. And the fact many malls and individual stores had cameras fed into the fantasy of the risk you could get caught and the question of what would you do then. An evolution of doing it in a movie theater in the 80s and at a drive-in in the 60s and 70s.

There’s also the wedding outfit “store” in Tartosa that lets you pick a wedding outfit. You can always use cheats to deduct the money from your funds so that it appears like you bought them too!

For sims 4 there is no limit on how much an outfit can be sold on trendi. I had a sim sell an outfit for 1 million simoleons. However the game plans to introduce a maximum limit on how much an outfit can be sold for.

IRL, would love to have every conceivable outfit in my dresser, who wouldn't? 😂 But, shopping and trying on clothes is more realistic, ergo Sims 1 and 2 are best here. Sims 1 gets an extra point for the date purchases, but Sims 2 steals the show for the additional spot to woohoo (just be careful not to woohoo where you see cameras) 😂❣ Sims 2, does also have sewing, whereby sims can make every outfit that is available for purchase from home, as well as custom outfits. I do know that some clothing items can be made with the Nifty Knitting Pack in Sims 4, but that dlc simulator will not get any more of my money! Now, if we were to go with the clothing design choices, Sims 3 would win, although laggy, that Pattern Tool can really help making unique outfits, I guess that is why they did not have Sims shopping in stores (I know I can spend hours in CAS designing my outfits, lol). I find it funny how in Sims 4 (Get to Work), your sim tries on the outfit, but it stays on the mannequin, until she decides to buy it, logic? 🤷‍♀️

The Sims 4 Music channel is now very diverse with many different styles of music. There is R&B, Hip-Hop, Rock, Alternative, Electronica, Romance, World, and S-Pop.

I work for a major retailer in the clothing department. Trust me, we will not cheer if someone is doing "woohoo" in the dressing room. Maybe some horrified yells "OH MY GOD WHAT ARE THEY DOING IN THERE!!!!". And guess who gets to clean it up =(

Everything about sims 1 and 2 was so bold. I miss when this wasn’t a kids game. Sims 3 clothing (so no cc but including store) was the absolute best. The heels were high enough, cute diverse outfits for every kind of sim. Form fitting 🤩

You didn't show the big closets in the Sims 4 Winderburg expansion. there you can pick up your outfit, show it to friends and so on. also did not show the sims 3 career stylist workshop. there you can change your outfit with a stylist, or choose it yourself, along with a hairstyle and makeup, so de change the appearance of other characters.

i personally don't really like the concept of having to go out to shop clothes anytime i decide to change my sims wardrobe, but i really like how in the sims 4 there are so many outfits already normally available but you can also purchase special ones (or knit some lol) to get even more variety to choose from. to me as a lazy person who doesn't like to leave their sims home lot all that much, that is the perfect balance.

Patrze na sims 4 i mam wrażenie, że tworcy gry w ogóle nie mieli na nia pomysłu. Po prostu zbiór funkcji z poprzednich części w ładniejszej oprawie. Szkoda bo gra ma ogromny potencjał

Your videos made me discover the sequels of this game, as I only played sims 4... It's so sad that the previous games have much more realism then Sims 4. Already got Sims 3 now and I enjoy it ! I'm just lost cuz i'm not used to the gameplay
