Another idea for curtains that are too long: Just fold them over a bit at the top and clip them! The extra fold makes a ruffle, and then if you ever want to move them, you haven't lost any length. I love your clean and cozy style =)

Yes to the family closet! I'm a mom to 8 and we have found the family closet to be more convenient for me doing laundry . No more having to carry loads up and down stairs and convenient to dress little ones on the main floor. We do this for kids under 11. Other pros for this is children who are young tend to pull all clothes out of their drawers and then the bedroom is a mess, we also keep toys out of the bedroom , It makes a room tidy and less overwhelming when children need to settle down for sleeping. We hung wooden rods to hang about 5 outfits at a time per child. Transformation looks great!

I had to color code towels for different areas to make it so everyone in the house knows where to put certain towels. So kitchen towels, cow towels, bathroom towels and basement bathroom towels are all location specific colors so that everyone knows if something is out of place.

I ponder things for so long they never get done...lol. 🤣

Super cute laundry! When my kids were little we had a giant tub at the back door with all their shoes in it, and a basket with all their socks. I had an express toy drawer at the back door so they could pick one toy before we rushed out the door. The suburban had a toy drawer and the seat pockets were stuffed with their books. A basket in the back of the car had extra clothes and wipes and diapers. These tricks saved me many times over. I also had a soothing classical CD that we listened to on the way home to make them sleepy and ready for a nap.

We have a smaller home with 4 kids and we keep our 5 and 6 year old boys’ clothes in the bathroom/laundry room and it helps make our mornings a lot more seamless. It also frees up room in their bedrooms, which are small.

I take old towels and cut them into cleaning rags and then toss them when they are discolored or too thin to use.

It's definitely a warmer space. You'll need a light UNDER that bottom shelf now that it's so dark. Lighting is everything in a home and it generally takes people years to figure out how to do it. I like how your bottom shelf is low. My pet peeve in laundry rooms are too high, too narrow shelves. The bottom shelf needs merely to clear the top of the top loader washer in order to be actually useful. I wasn't sure why you sewed your curtains too long but I see you want to be able to tuck them beside the washer dryer and stay put. Your husband is great at "cutting in" with a brush ... particularly difficult with contrasting colors ... but he aced it!!! You sew like me ... on the floor, on the table, on the washer, on the back porch table ...lol ...anywhere I'm working and need a quick sewing task.

Urbane bronze is beautiful. My son and his wife painted their cabinets that color. So rich and warm. ❤

I really like it! The dark colour added so much. My laundry space is right at our entrance so not easy to change anything really. But thankful for a large shelf above the washer and dryer that holds laundry supplies!

The color looks great! If I really wanted the change I'd have a hard time thinking on the same color for a year! Lol! It's just paint... you can always go back to what you had if you truly hate it! I mean, I'm all for truly contemplating it but not as long as you I don't think! Lol!

My laundry room is basically a big closet, so I understand the challenge. I've been creating mood boards to decide how to design the best functionality of the small space for my family's needs. Growing up we owned a chain of laundromats, so I am finicky and picky to what I need and want, lol. Excited to see what you came up with :)

Well Lisa, you’ve made me stop and think about my laundry room instead of rushing out to buy a new (cheap) wall cupboard! I just wanted somewhere to store vases, planters etc as well as laundry stuff and thought I could just stash things behind closed doors! I need to give this more thought, so thankyou. Take care.

Our laundry room is also the mechanical room. It’s not too small. It would be nice to have another toilet in our 1980s split level, and I told my husband we could just add a commode and sink to the laundry room. He thought it was a weird idea. I thought it was practical. 😁

Those clip on curtain clips are a life saver, so versatile, less fuss.

Ideas: *Hooks on the right wall next to the washer to hang the spray bottles that you put on the shelf near the wash soap. Even the same basic 2 hook plate that you use for the towels. *Attach thin baskets to the door of the cabinet to store smaller items and then only 1 layer of baskets on the cabinet shelves.

I use different colour towels and face cloths in my bathrooms. That way there are always enough in each one.

What great timing! We are currently turning our laundry room into a family closet/wash room. We are putting in a large wash sink and a pulley system clothesline for rainy days when laundry still needs to be tackled. I love the basket idea for clothing. ❤

I had also tested Urbane Bronze for our renovation but went with Tony Taupe. I loved the drama of Urbane Bronze and I could see that it leaned green. In your footage here it really went to the green side! Looks great!

Love how you redid the bathroom and makes absolute sense with any size family. When My aunt built her new home back in the 60s, she had a shower 1/2 bath with vanity and toilet. Made absolute sense to me. It was 3 steps from their attached garage and 6 from the back door. Many couldn't understand why she had tile in the family room to the outside. Tracking dirt in on tile much easier than on carpet. Efficiency is key with any lifestyle. just enhance what you have as you have done and do so often.

Good vlog. I am old school, I would have iron out the curtains out and pressed the out the seams. I also think the buffalo check pattern was a good choice, but perhaps they should have been shorter. Maybe about the appliance dials, it would look tidier.

love it, you've inspired me to just transform a small space that needs a lift. I think you could use one of those over the toilet shelving units. I have one from FB that is wood with some open an closed shelving and the closed cabinet is an antique glass. Would be perfect in there.

You can always create back stock of towels in the basement or a linen press somewhere. You will definitely use them! When worn they make great rags … my pet groomer is always asking for towel donations, and shelters love them too.

I must say you have utilised the space better and made it look beautiful at the same time. Unfortunately, my washer is in my kitchen ( I live in England) and I don’t have space for a utility room. I store my laundry detergent and softener under my kitchen sink ( luckily that space is big! I do however, have my dryer outside in my shed, and I fixed that up nicely! My husband has put up a small shelf where I can keep dryer sheets and a few things. The other unfortunate thing is we were thinking about extending our kitchen and adding a small utility room, it will interfere with any light we get. Oh well, it has served me well for almost 24 years, what’s another how much longer we stay here. lol!

It looks amazing! Way to go Luke and Lisa! A quick paint up top and new curtains and you've changed it pretty drastically! I think painting the outlet and light switch covers the same as the wall color (matching where they are) would help the eye not stop on them or allow them to stand out as much. But that's a nit picky thing that's not necessary at all! It's just something that caught my eye so I thought I'd mention it.

I like the wooden piece above the washer and dryer painted, but I think it would have been nice without it being painted as well... since you added the baskets on the shelves and the darker color behind it, I think it would've tied all the wood and wicker together! I'M NOT SAYING IT DOESN'T LOOK AMAZING PAINTED, I just think it would've looked great as it was too! 😊

I love dark colors. I think the color you chose is absolutely beautiful. I've been wanting to paint my bathroom black, so seeing yours makes me want to tackle it. Now it's just me and my boyfriend in our house, I keep my night gowns, bra's, and underwear in our bathroom closet, I love getting dressed there. It's so much easier. I think you'll love having that space to dress the boys.

I painted my kitchen cabinets urban bronze. They look beautiful, but I worry sometimes that it’s too dark for our small kitchen. It’s just so much work to redo them lol.

Absolutely beautiful. Our house was built in 1930 and you can see where the bathroom was built on from the outside of the house… also the laundry room is the hall way to the bathroom… and where the back door is also.. we don’t have a electric washer I wash everything by hand so I have the vintage wash tubs that sit there.. but I love the idea of curtains above it as I have shelves open type above the washtubs also… in my old house I painted some of the walls black with the white on the bottom it was beautiful.

I’m with you on the pondering. My husband says it’s fear of commitment.🤭 I painted paint samples on several walls, but couldn’t choose. Even the members of our church small group asked after six months where was I going with this idea. 🤦🏻‍♀️ My husband went to Lowe’s, chose the colors, purchased the paint, I painted and we loved it! I guess it was the teamwork!😂 Funny how people nowadays think it’s weird to have laundry in the bathroom or kitchen. Growing up, we never thought twice about it. I think you’ve shown beauty and functionality! I bet it will continue to evolve as your family needs change. BTW, that piece above the curtains is gorgeous! Well done!🙌🏻

Your husband is a risk taker. When i paint a room, I have to tape things off, and cutting in takes me forever. If i dont take these extra steps, disaster ensues!

Yes to the family closet! Single mom of 7 and it makes life so much easier! I also do “no fold”. My kids have 3 big cloth bins each, 1 for underwear, bras and pjs, one for play clothes and one for nice clothes. They each have their own laundry basket and I only do laundry once a week on Saturdays.
