Hey Brian, I have to say, I think the chin mount view is more immersive and dynamic than the stabilised gimbal. Maybe it's because the camera follows your head movements and give it a more responsive/fast feel in tech sections whilst in flat sections you're looking up at the trail and can see more of the scenery and that's very nice too. I feel as though the gimbal makes the image almost "too perfect" and sometimes it has to play catch up in the pan sections, also drops and rolling hilly sections look really subdued on gimballed footage whilst on the chin mount in this instance I could see everything and could "feel" the gnarly sections, not that the footage was shaky in any substantial way if any. I really enjoyed this video the most over your recent releases, and I think it's really because of the chin mount set up. Maybe it's something to consider in the future as you also seemed to be having much more fun which is very important and you weren't riding as defensively as you usually would with the gimbal set up. I think maybe subconsciously you weren't so worried about damaging equipment and that resulted in you pushing harder or being more creative on the trail. I understand you can't wear the full face all the time, but man this was a great video!

You’ve absolutely hit the nail on the head there. I think why a lot of people don’t do this already is because it’s quite a cumbersome set up, on pedally days it can really make you not enjoy the ride. But if there’s more chin footage I won’t be complaining!
@Hybed
@Hybed 4 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you. There is still the option to buy a helmet with a "clip on chin peace". That way you can climb with a normal helmet and descend with full face helmet and chin mount.

you just said my thought!)) Me personally think that chin mount is the best point of view in terms of dynamics and involving the viewer in process. Especially with gopro 8 stabilisation. The only point is fullface helmet all the way...

These trails look incredible. I don't get a ton of rock like that unless I want to drive for 5 hours so it's definitely saliva inducing. Big fan of JC Trails, dude can definitely shred! nice to see him getting some colabs going, hopefully he can grow the channel a bit, definitely deserving of it!
