Just a simple trick to instantly improve the comfort of almost any wooden handled tool. Most any modern tool these days comes with a horrible almost plastic-like coating on the wood. it gives little to no purchase when your hands are wet or sweaty, and it feels cold and plastic to the touch. One of the first things I do when I buy one of these tools it to scrape off the old finish with a card scraper or razor blade (also could just sand) and reapply a Boiled Linseed Oil finish. Suddenly it will feel like a real tool in your hand and not a cheap plastic toy.

I've never considered this. Now, I'll be holding all my tools and thinking, I really should strip these and refinish.

Once you do one you won’t tolerate that plastic nonsense anymore.

1/2” belt sander would do a quick too. That blank handle looks like a good place to brand it with T L.

Totally agree, I take the finish off all my turning tools and sometimes don't even bother to oil them because there's enough oil in my skin to impregnate the wood if I don't want any transfer of oil to the work.

Yeah I do that too if I need the tool right away, but if I can let it sit for a day or two I’ll use the BLO

Great idea...but when I do it, I will wrap some tape around the blade first. I'm just clumsy enough to cut myself.

Yeah I almost didn’t either, since it’s kinda common knowledge among woodworkers but my channel has always been about more than wood so I figured why not.
