Tip down is awesome especially with that hole in the clip, makes it very easy and secure to rotate it. Can't imagine carrying it the other way around.

Thanks for your input. I won’t lie, I like tip down carry for this knife. But I have 2 PM2s so I’ve decided to carry one up, one down 😆

@@inkiron3907 You're welcome. Subbed. Found out if I grab as far down as possible in tip-up carry, I'm able to flick it without changing the grip which might be my new preference. Came that way on my new black Para 3. But that might change when I get my MXG clip which might make it sit too deep and maybe I'll go back to tip down as before. Ofc the Para 3 is shorter so this may not apply on the PM2.

I take both clips off and carry my Endura open between my clenched teeth cos I’m a paranoid pirate at heart .

That’s works too 😂

I prefer tip down because I learned on a Spyderco Police model in 1993 up til the late 90's and for me it's safer and my hand is already oriented exactly where it needs to be without fumbling around. I tend to flip it open to the side more to deploy it on tip up once I get it out of my pocket where tip down it's simply up open then out front deployed. This is especially true for a Spyderco. IMHO the wave feature is great but dangerous if you try opening it in a ground fight or any method where you are not standing up completely and have the room to deploy.
@inkiron39074 жыл бұрын
I won’t argue with your muscle memory, I think that’s good to rely on. That’s a valid point about deploying from a position on the ground... I’ve never tried that

I will only carry tip down.

i used to have a knife as EDC that was only tip up config, i had to put a lanyard so i can grab the lanyard with the pinky and then pull and have a better grip for deployent, honestly im so glad with my tip down edc
@inkiron39074 жыл бұрын
To each their own my friend. On a big knife I definitely understand tip-down but my smaller knives I like tip-up 👍 also I don’t enjoy lanyards, just as a pet peeve. Thanks for your experience

Hey Joe, I am a tiip up guy. I find it more stable of a grip because my entire hand is on my knife when I pull it. My thumb goes in my pocket and finds whatever is on the knife to deploy it. that means out of my pocket i have a full grip and no repositioning. If I go tip down, my grip starts with a pinch of my knife between thumb and forefinger which is easier to lose control or somebody knock it out of my hand and then I also have to complete my grip.

Tip up for me cuz most of my knives just feel better when I'm using them, and to me that's more important then quick deployment
@maddogtroy284 жыл бұрын
Glad in 2020 there are still people figuring out mostly tip down seems faster and safer unless you wanna do a wave open function say with at zip tie . I bough in to tip up watching so many videos but on knives with bad detents have cut my self severely so many times I feel like tip down is usually the way to go.
@inkiron39074 жыл бұрын
I’m fortunate that my blades all seem to have good detents. I can totally see why that requires tip down carry! I will be keeping that in mind as I keep collecting 😎

Normally I’m a tip up guy but on a larger knife like the spyderco resilience I carry tip down for the same reasons. My hand is closer to the spydey hold

Nobody talks about it, but tip up favors drawing the knife forward out of the pocket, while tip up is better for a rearward draw. Can’t stand deep-carry clips, though. Getting a quick grip with my fingertips is way more of a hassle than either tip orientation.
@BadKarma4U7 ай бұрын
Yes tip down for spyderco....tip up for people looking for more safety I guess for me faster deployment is key...either way will work just individual preference.

I switched my PM2 to top-up because I kept scratching my knuckles on the jimping when I put my hand in my pocket. But, if I did carry in my back pocket more, I might have kept it tip down
@inkiron39074 жыл бұрын
The PM2 jimping is unforgiving haha. I throw my knife into random pockets sometimes 😅 I’m glad I cut my back pocket so I don’t have to see it
@chinastar1177 Жыл бұрын
Well I noticed the pm2 and the para 3 the clip is on opposite sides. But it’s just supposed to be a smaller version of the pm2. So confused to why they did that
@matts65514 жыл бұрын
Only problem I’ve found with tip down is that it vastly limits the kind of deep carry pocket clip options. The one you have installed extends outwards from the scales and that vastly takes away from the aesthetics of the knife. I prefer tip down, in fact I just ordered a Para 3 and am still searching for a deep carry clip that doesn’t cost $60
@inkiron39074 жыл бұрын
If the lower profile clip is what you prefer then go for it. You could go with MXG Gear pocket clips. They are more like $25-30 but they make a wide variety of Spyderco replacement clips. They are similar to the clips in my vid though so 🤷🏽♂️

what are you talking about?? its literally the same EXACT clip on that knife. dont like it put a different one on. what does it have to do with tip up or down???

Thanks. A few years ago I decided to upgrade my one and only Gerber Swagger pocket knife. Few videos and reviews later got a PM2. I tried to change to 'tip up', and the screws stripped the holes on the opposite end. My bad, didn't realize the liner is softer metal. So I very carefully put it back to original. I guess the manufacturer put it that was for a reason.
@inkiron39073 жыл бұрын
Well I’m glad you like the knife. As a Spyderco fan I can’t deny that they use cheap screws which aren’t user friendly… it’s a bit of a trade off because they’re blades rock
@James-ke5sx3 жыл бұрын
@@inkiron3907 Hi, the screws are fine. The liner holes got stripped. It was the 1st time I ever altered a knife because in 'tip down' position it opened on me and stabbed me in the leg. Wearing jogging pants, I leaned over on the couch on my side and when I moved my leg the big 'spider hole' in the blade opened the knife.

Haven't even bought my first knife yet.A bit concerned about accidently cutting myself if a spring assisted ver knife opening up in my pocket? So do knives come with safety instructions or rules for handling?

What is the use of the “wave”?

It opens the knife at the same time it’s drawn from a pocket

It's for paranoid people who think if they can't open their knife milliseconds faster that they're doomed.
@user-gw2ej9bc7r4 жыл бұрын
cannonball666 that’s doesn’t make any sense. If you carry a knife for reasons that include self defense why would you not sacrifice a little comfort for speed and in this case why not have a knife that opens milliseconds faster? There’s a reason the wave exists and it’s not because it’s pointless. You seem to have some weird stigma with people being concerned with defending their life and wanting to be able to deploy their potential life line fast.
@sylviacandler55413 ай бұрын
Bad guys hit from ambush. Imagine one or two bad guys jump you, and you have to deploy your knife in an instant. I will never have the clip on the same end as the pivot. Also, you may be using your strong arm to ward off attackers, consider this.
@cannonball6664 жыл бұрын
You failed to point out that carrying tip down places the clip in a position that interferes much more with your fingers on the scales while tip up keeps the clip free from your fingers. You failed to mention this because you're only concerned with deployment speed which tells me you are somewhat of a paranoid person. And just let me say that deployment speed has very little to do with winning a knife fight in the long run.
@inkiron39074 жыл бұрын
Possibly paranoid but I also like fast, one had deployment because it came in handy mixing industrial chemicals. Lift bag, cut bag, dump bag, then wait 10 min for the next bag... that sort of punctuated cutting. And I wouldn’t think a knife fight would have a “winner” as much as a survivor. But I’m no expert
@FancyCP304 жыл бұрын
cannonball666 I think you're some what paranoid person. Why not mention the safty issue. Tip up position might cut your finger! And also there's plenty of knife that a head and tale is symmetric. Your point is not for general knife. I apologize if my english is bad but I think I made my point.
@brucebelvin20584 жыл бұрын
@@FancyCP30 You are a dumbass. WTF does not mentioning the safety issue have to do with him being paranoid? Because he calls the OP paranoid you automatically turn it around and project it onto him. That's what children do. You also don't understand anything. It doesn't matter if a knife is symmetrical. When it's open you hold your control fingers closer to the blade, and when there is a clip there instead of at the rear it's in the way. You need to shut up when you don't have a clue.
@cannonball6664 жыл бұрын
Nice try at covering your paranoia. But your reasoning doesn't hold water. A millisecond faster deployment for "cutting a bag" doesn't justify sacrificing control and comfort while cutting.
@NPonlamuangsri4 жыл бұрын
Except at 1:40 when he says his main point of concern is “indexing.” Also, at about the 5 minute mark, he says the clip on top makes the handle a little thicker and gives him more to hold. Imagine being that judgmental about the way someone prefers to carry his knife.
