Lyrics:
Now Daddy didn't like trouble, but if it came along
Everyone that knew him knew which side that he'd be on
He never was a hero, or this county's shinin' light
But you could always find him standing up
For what he thought was right
He'd say you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
You've got to be your own man not a puppet on a string
Never compromise what's right and uphold your family name
You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
Now we might have been better off or owned a bigger house
If Daddy had done more givin' in or a little more backing down
But we always had plenty just living his advice
Whatever you do today you'll have to sleep with tonight

I just heard this song recently after my husband got demoted at work. He was doing great in his new role until his superiors literally told him that he needed to start lying to customers and selling them things that they didn't need so the company could meet their sales quotas. My husband immediately told his superiors that while he was more than willing to work on selling more, he wouldn't do it by deceiving people. He was demoted shortly after that. When one of his coworkers asked him why he did it, he said "I have to answer to a much higher authority than (manager) and (assistant manager)". While the extra money from the promotion was nice, I'm so proud of my husband for standing up for his values. Thank you Lord for giving him an honest and caring heart.

My dad left when I was a toddler. My mom remarried a year or so later to a man that used to play this music in the truck with me. He taught me how to hunt and fish and how to work hard and be a man. Their relationship didn’t make it and I didn’t always live by the values taught in this song. But I do today and if it weren’t for those memories, I don’t know if I’d have known how to man up and get past the hard times. We as men need to remember what a man is supposed to be and be that no matter what! God bless all who read this!!

Ready for revolutionary war mark 2. There's going to be a point where America says enough. Most Americans (I don't consider they who shall not be named Americans) are afraid to stand up, and in my opinion it's time we stand up and say enough is enough and take back our government, and our home. First through lawful protest and contacting government officials but unfortunately a LOT of people don't even know we can contact gov officials and speak our minds and if they don't listen, then we protest. Its to much work to contact them, go to council meetings etc. There will be a straw that breaks the cammels back, and that straw is getting mighty heavy. Americans are the majority but unfortunately we're the silent majority.

My granddaddy gave me this same speech. A veteran, child of the Great Depression, and retired Baptist minister, he had seen it all. There ain't many good, honest men like him left. If more kids had their dads and grandads sitting with them on the porch and teaching them these life lessons, the world would be a better place.

He's a good guy and I grew up on Tippin, Kershaw, Raye, Doug Stone, Tracy Lawrence, Pam Tillis, Clint Black, Reba, Trisha Yearwood, Alan Jackson, Dolly Parton, Stevie Nick's, Johnny Cash, Mel Tillis, Oak Ridge Boys, George Straight, Hank Williams you get my drift. I just had a good experience with someone I grew up on. Actually been listening to knowing but Country music since 83. It has Nothing to do with someone commenting on 2020 as so you put it. Cory Anthony Today's country isn't Country it's shit!!! Especially compared to the country music in 83 to the late 90s. It's completely garage they play today. If you listen and admire today's country then I feel sorry for you. You really don't know Country music my friend. I've met some very impressive artist over the years just not Tippin.

Yep, the good old news....ya know imagine a world where no music was playing....think of a church whith nobody singing,...or walked in a garden where nothing was growing.....well that's some lyrics from a song by lory Morgan called ...( a picture of me with out you) ...we dont think about that very often if ever, well I started these last couple of yrs, ya see my dads getting older and he always stood up for what he thought was right, he raised me in the sticks deer hunting, fishing and campfires on the weekends when we went camping at big bear campground. I think about it because hes had such an impact on my life raising me, and we all appreciate life a little more when our folks get old and we go off and raise a family of our own. I love you Aaron Tipon for this song it means so very much to my family, especially me, my father is a great man.

My, Father has been dead for 23 years. I am still scared of him today. My Father had great presents. When he walked in a room. People took notice! He never meet a man he didn't like. But if you stepped on his toes. He wouldn't let you do it again! He would always catch the big one on the lake. Or kill the biggest Buck in the woods. I have never measured up to his shadow to this Day. R.I.P. Dad! Your birthday is coming up soon. You would be in your 80's now. But God! Decided to take you home to be with him. Tomorrow I will be as old as you were when you passed. Go rest High on that Mountain. Love your son! SHAWN

I shared this song with somebody who really needed to hear it in a time when he had to stand up for what was right, but it was so hard. He said he drove for miles relistening to it over and over, and this song gave him the strength to move forward in strength, understanding why he actually had no choice. He HAD to take that stand even if it meant he has to betray his word. This just happened, so the outcome is yet to be seen. Sometimes being too responsible in one part of your life can stop you from being responsible in another; especially when you find yourself enabling a tyrant while believing you're helping a person change. Then, finding out you're doing things to help, but being used because the person is secretly doing the same bad things to others and wants to keep doing it. He's been lied to so the person gets his help. I think he was afraid of failing, but it's the person he tried to help that is failing, not him. It's time to speak up now that he sees an enemy of the people enjoys being that enemy.

I listen this on repeat! I was raised like this. In 1962 when I was born my Daddy was 41 years old. He'd served in WW2 in Germany and was a hard working Kentucky man. I was the youngest of 9 and the baby. You bet we were taught right from wrong. He never had to raise his voice, he had a PRESENCE about him. You just knew better. Upholding the family name was a given, as well as protecting each other. 4 big brother (one 15 years older) No one who found out I was a North, bothered me..ever. They knew my brothers would throw their ass back at them as they walked away.

Amen. I grew up around both good and bad music influences and attitudes. Luckily, I can see good for good with the wisdom of people and music like this. There's more good in people than bad, I think. The good might not be as loud as the bad, but it is greater in number and in truth. We are all waking up to the error of our ways and humbly seeking the wisdom of the past to guide us to light. God bless everyone.

I grew up listening to this and it didn't mean much then. But after years on the streets drunk and on drugs and the way the world is getting I cleaned up and these lyrics hit different now.

I miss the 90's so MUCH!!!! I was born in 85' but I grew up on ole country music, use to show horses too down south. I was gonna go to sankey bull riding school so I could get into the PBR but I got chrons when I turned 21 and almost died..had gone on to have 11 surgeries all together, it was life changing but I have a new look on life, it's weird when something like that happens to you and you have this different aspect on life. Now I just drive truck, got my Class A 3 yrs ago.

This song really has a good lesson in it. Stand up for your own moral beliefs or anyone will easily mislead you into believing something else that is wrong.

This song reminds me of my boyfriend so much, he’s a very calm relax man, but one time boy kept making comments on my body and making suggestive comments, he had it when he confronted him and the boy said “what are you gonna do about it?” He is absolutely not the type to fight but he sure gave that boy a lesson with 6 solid punches to the face. This perfectly describes him ❤

I absolutely love this song. I love the message of teaching your kids good morals. And standing up for what's right.

I was always told by my mother that there is never a right time to do the wrong thing, nor is there ever a wrong time to do the right thing.....that if I practiced this throughout life...God would bless me, and that I never have to apologize for my actions. That's the way I was raised! And tried very hard to raise my 3 boys but letting them go, someday they will understand my actions.

My dad presented himself at age 18 in 1941 to join the Army...His vision was so bad he was legally blind without glasses, and they said he could do limited stateside duty. He said just gimme a spare pair of glasses and I will go. He landed in France, was in Battle of the Bulge, and walked unsuspecting into a concentration camp the day after liberation along with a photographer sent to take pictures of something. He was standing for something for sure. In spite of the offended weenies we have now, we still have those brave young people who volunteer to serve and accept the risk.

Good fathers raise good sons. Good sons turn into good fathers. The lack of good fathers is leading to the downfall of this country. My dad died 11 years ago of cancer. He never missed day of work during chemo other than the days he physically got treatment. He was a strong family man a community leader and all around great guy. We live in a small town and in days gone by this was common but all business in town closed during his funeral. He was that well respected. I will never be able to fill those shoes but I’ve never been arrested have a good job a house a new truck great friends that will do anything for me I just bought my mom a new car I’m respected in the community. I owe all this to my dad.

Nashville will finally get the message, somehow... We want REAL Country Music! Saw him when he was first getting popular, along with The Kentucky Headhunters and Pirates of the Mississippi. Aaron blew them away!
