Tips and tricks for taking the Duolingo English Test

Here at the Duolingo English Test, we receive many questions about test prep, or how to prepare for taking the test. Our answer is that the best way to improve your score on the DET is to improve you English proficiency! That said, there are a lot of resources out there to help you get ready to test your best. Hi! I would like to know, if I follow the British English in writing and speaking , should it be okay or should I follow the American English? For example, if I write "favour", will I be penalized for not writing "favor"? Will it me ok be if write "centre" (British English) or I should write "center"? Waiting for your feedback. Thanks.

Hii mam, My test couldn"t be certified thrice.first time reason is i looked away from the screen for an extended period of time.And two times said that i am completed the written sections not independently. But i am written indepenently.But DET give another chane to retake my test.In these time how to i am perform could get certified marks.what do you think i should do for my next test?

Hi there, good question! I wish you luck in taking the test again! I would say, first of all, do not use any pre-prepared response (so, don't practice reciting the same lines and then use those on the test). Try to stay on the topic as specifically as possible. Also, try to use a conversational tone as much as possible. You can listen to native speakers on TV shows or in KZfaq videos to understand what natural speaking sounds like, and think about how you speak in your native language as well. Vary your tone, emphasize important words, try to speak at a natural pace.

Hi DET team I got few queries why DET's rules are hard and tough. Nowadays, very common issues on DET is We could not confirm that you completed the written sections independently." I request you Please reply me even though I have followed all the rules I haven't got RETAKE and I have more than 5 times my EXAM fees.

Two microphone is working on my pc.One of external mic and other one is webcam microphone.Should I disabled one microphone?

I am use to waer eyesight glasses otherwise I will not be able to attempt any test.can I wear glasses?

Yes you can wear your glasses, of course! If possible, try to make sure there isn't any bright light glare on the lenses. It's important for the proctor to see your eyes to make sure they remain on the test throughout.

Good luck on the test! Remember that the practice test score range is an estimate. If you've taken it multiple times, it can be a good predictor of how you might score on the real test, but remember that the practice test is shorter and not proctored!
