Loved the video Amanda! I have done some experiments with the same technique and the variety of shapes is really cool. However, the color of the silver has turned grey and coppery. How do I restore the silver color without too much abrasion as I like the organic shapes and surfaces and want to retain them.

Oh, that's a great question. The discolorization is generally caused by fire scale that is being held on to the piece by the flux. One way to remove it would be to flux the piece again, carefully anneal it making sure to not melt the piece, let it cool below red-hot, and then quench it. After that, a pickle bath should remove any remaining flux and fire scale. That should leave the piece a nice white silver finish. :)

Yeah.."sunglasses..their close enuff" ..probably true with silver because it returns to solid..not so much with other more fluid things..like lye...goggles keep things from running down your forehead into your eyes..even safety glasses are not so protective when it comes to these things..but a stylish pair of goggles or your favorite swim mask (and snorkel cuz you know you're the type that's gonna be all in for safety!) you can't go wrong there..and if you can make it look cool then you can never be too safe.. but if it can't be made to look cool then free yourself and party naked! Ouch!
