I’m 5.6 with 28 inseam. I know what means to struggle with a taller bike. I do believe that getting known your motorcycle balance helps a lot. I also use the foot pegs to jump on my bike. Thanks for the tips.

*If you're a short rider, ask yourself if you want to just have one foot down every single time you stop.* Having a good contact patch on both sides maintain confidence. Try a reduced reach seat first. Try riding footwear that adds height. As a last resort, get that lowering link and lower the front forks (rear shock is not about ride height). Manufacturers design most bikes for tall people and assume short riders will just live like that. They can design shorter bikes (frame, suspension, etc.) but they're in the business of selling high volumes and not appeasing all riders. *Make YOUR bike as comfortable as YOU need it to be.*

Not sure if anyone will see this or not, but I guarantee you can ride if you really want to, i’m 5’1 so most bikes are not meant for someone my size, however if you’re interested in getting a sport bike i can confidently recommend SUZUKI due to the lower seat height, i haven’t lowered any of my bikes and i can touch the ground with my toes or flat foot one foot at a time, i have little to no confidence issues riding anymore and i’d like to buy a 1000 someday when i can afford one, if you’re passionate about riding, you’ll find a way, and you’ll become more and more comfortable the more seat time you get and it’ll feel very natural regardless of your height, don’t feel like you can’t do it if you’re not super tall, i’m telling you, you absolutely can.

All the tips are applicable but for SHORT riders, we're talking 5'2 and below, lowering the bike is a MUST to be comfortable and prevent dropping in scenarios such as stopping on leaves, sand, black ice, oil slicks, hills, and potholes. Great video!

Yeah I do agree with you. I really really try not to but there's always limits. For example, it's legitimately not worth it for me to own an adventure bike unless I lower it. Even though I know I could probably do it, it would be extremely uncomfortable and unnecessary.

was exiting my neighborhood from a different stop sign the other day. (I'm a 5'4 female on a yamaha fz6) I didn't realize the ground was sloped by this stop sign, when i went to put my foot down I didn't feel the ground then panicked and couldn't muscle the bike back upright in time. Luckily (and unfortunately) the whole neighborhood saw... people were coming out of their houses 😂 and a few guys came to help, one of them that picked up my bike with me was my next door neighbor. Very embarrassing and humbling moment. As you mentioned already, watch where you stop shorties.

im 5'5, been riding for a year, currently i own the V2 and Tiger 900 rally (adv bike 34.25in), i don't even put the tiger seat to the lower configuration. when i first started i wouldn't dare throw a leg over the tiger let alone buy one. the more you ride the more confident you become, anyone asking if they can handle so and so bike probably can't because in their mind they've already decided they can't

Congrats on the awesome bikes! That's a great combo. I agree with you though, it's all about confidence. When I first started I was horrified with my wr250r haha! Now I'm thinking about scrapping the lowering link and going back to stock height!

How would you say someone an inch shorter than you would be on a V2? I want one SO bad and I'm not selling my current bike, but I'm so damn nervous about not being able to buy one and enjoy it because I'm short. Any advice or insight would be great.
@thuy515

@@ValkyrieActual141 my riding buddy is shorter than I am and handles my V2 just fine. the trick for shorties like us is being comfortable enough to put only your left foot down at stops. my riding buddy dropped his first bike (30in) countless times, multiple times each ride when we first started, but he just got better with time, and rides a taller bike now. the trick for him is he would get a bike seat with a smooth surface so he can easily slide his butt over to one side to reach the ground with one leg. he did mention that because the V2 has a very grippy seat, he doesn't want to ride it for that reason. hope that helps.

@@ValkyrieActual141 I would say go sit on one if you haven't already, get an actual feel for it. I had my eyes on a Panigale from the start, went in to sit on a 959 and just didn't feel confident enough for it yet. After a season of riding I felt comfortable enough to purchase the V2. I struggle with not being able to duckwalk it backwards if there's an incline, I just don't have the leverage for it. It will take some effort to handle the bike around at parking lots/driveway/garage, but you get familiar with it. I have the Duke 390, the seat height is about the same as V2, but because it's a smaller and lighter bike, muscling it around is so effortless that sometimes I take that bike out instead of the V2 for that reason.

I’m 4’10” (26” inseam) and I can only tippy toe one side on my lowered Ninja 300 (28” seat height). To paint a picture for you, my legs are so short that I can’t even reach my kickstand while sitting on the bike. So I have to kick the stand up, hop on the bike then go, and also stop, hop off the bike, kick the stand down and park. So for anyone wondering if they’re too short to ride? NO YOU ARENT!!! YOU JUST NEED TO PRACTICE!!! YOU GOT THIS!!! Also from my experience, the easiest way to reverse a bike as a short rider is to just flip the bike around on the kickstand. This method works on basically all sport bikes, but I’m not sure does this apply to cruisers or dirt.
@JessPham09

Omg im 4’11” and im on my learners riding a cbr250r. I have to hella tip toe on the bike. Do you lower the suspension at all? Do you use platform to ride? I am still learning and i would assume it feels way scarier not having the balls of your feet on the ground to maintain balance especially for beginners
@daisyw23
@daisyw23 2 жыл бұрын
@@JessPham09 So Ninja 300 can’t adjust suspension, only the preload, which I did but it doesn’t really lower that much of a difference. I ride with just regular Vans. If I want the balls of my foot to touch the ground, I could scoot my butt over right before the complete stop, so I have more leg length to reach the ground if that makes sense. Honestly just practice stopping and going in any neighborhood/parking lot, and you’ll slowly get more confident and know how much to scoot your butt over at stops.

@Jones Bros Garage - I needed this video. This was phenomenally explained and thorough. I am a new rider who is also 5' 6" and I really have my heart set on a Honda CRF250L Rally but that 35.2" seat height was very intimidating when I test rode it. I love the bike though. I have hope though because there's plenty of kits out there like seat lowering and also links that I could use. I am going to start with the seat lowering and see how that feels. I gotta first get up the money for the bike but yea, This video will definitely be my reference point for any information.

Good tips. I always look at the angle of the street when I stop. If it's a bit too low on my left, I'll use front brake and put my right foot down but typically I'm using the rear brake when coming to a stop and putting my left foot down. Another tip...I never put my bike in neutral just in case I need to make a quick exit if it looks like the car coming up behind me doesn't look like it's going to stop. I also stop to the left or right of the car in front, never directly behind and in the spot that gives me the best way to escape.

If you're 5'1" then height DOES matter. Adventure bikes are OUT. You can't ride them without jumping off the bike every time it comes to a stop. You CAN ride a modern Z1000 JUST ABOUT if you're an experienced rider. If you're not, then you will almost certainly drop it A LOT. The simple answer is for the manufacturers to CONSIDER shorter riders, when they design them. Lower seat height rails to allow a lower seat height. THEN they can simply offer a THICKER SEAT for taller riders! WHY DON'T THEY ALL DO THIS NOW??? Why do we have to put up with "seat height apartheid"???

I believe that a person's INSEAM vs SEAT HEIGHT is the main factor to consider when considering a bike. Although I am 5' 7", my inseam is only 29", so a bike with a 31.9" (810 mm) seat height results in a tip toe stance at a stop light.

As female and as beginner driver, my first bike I bought was a second hand suzuki sv650 which was lowered by the previous owner (of course at the dealer) and you really feel the discomfort of the bike driving on bumpy roads. I was happy to flat-footed in the beginning but now we drive "bigger" bikes. As said to gain confidence in the beginning it helped very much. I would never again buy a bike which is lowered (after the factory) because it changes the geometry. But as a beginner I was pleased to start like that. The engineers take much effort to make a good bike. Of course I will not be able to ride a Ténéré 700 at 87cm seat hight 😅 but there is enough choice.

height does matter. tip toeing is enough if the road perfectly flat. it's really hard to be a short rider here in our country. you cannot always say that you will stop on a part of the road without a pot hole. plus it gives you confidence or assurance as a beginner that you can just flat foot on the ground if your about to fall. 5'6 above riders will never understand the struggle of 5'0 below riders. lowering is a must.
@Stu81
@Stu81 Жыл бұрын
Great advice he's put out there, only thing I'd say which I've noticed is common among bike reviews or when talking about seat height is that a person's height is irrelevant, I'm 5'7 with a 30"inseam bare foot crouch to ground, my friend who also rides is 5'8 but has a 29" inseam his girlfriend is 5'6 and has a 31" inseam so don't be to focused on height, also another tip is adding insoles into you riding boots, there are height increasing insoles but they make you feel like you got high heels on so maybe girls will be ok with them but I couldn't use them, so I put 3 cheap but thick insoles in mine without it making my boots too tight (always nice to take them off!) I ride an xsr900 which by the book has a 32.7 (but remember most manufacturers measure the bike dry with no weight on so it will be at least 1/2 to 1 inch lower to the book height with fuel and rider on) seat height so as standard I was tip toe but with a seat shave and the insoles and the suspension set for my weight I can flat foot both feet, also consider some bikes you can get aftermarket lower seats or you can shave the seat foam yourself and many companies that sell custom seats they can tailor them for you, lowering links and raising forks should be last option, it really screws up the handling, might feel better in one situation but really bad in other situations......if you are very short just search "midget on a sports bike"!

In my experience, the length of your legs do matter. Its tough to maneuver in tight traffic (when you need to move your bike around without throttle). or when you are stopping in a hill. its better off when you can touch both your feet on the ground to maneuver. I am 165cm so I find it challenging

I am 5'7 and have ridden big bikes of the past like K1 Honda 750 four , Suzuki GT750 tripple 2 stroke which was probably the tallest and heaviest at 550lbs. Used to drop it sometimes in tricky situations when stopping. My friend who was 2 times my weight and tall at 6' 6" would sit on the back and put his feet down when we pulled up at lights, People would laugh when they seen this.

At least for sport and dirt bike style bikes put the kickstand down and pull up on the otherwise of the bike. Balancing the bike on the kickstand this can allow you to just swing the bike around in the parking spot I used to do this all the time with my gsxr750. I am 5 10 but with a little practice just about anyone should be able to do this

I'm right at 5'4 and I currently own a 2018 Triumph Bobber that I can easily flat foot which gives me so much confidence on that bike. I've been wanting a V2 since I saw one and I found one at a great price but I'm scared as hell to even go look at it because I'm afraid I won't be tall enough. Not being able to buy my dream sport bike because of my height just makes me feel so awful. I decided after watching this I'm going to look at it next Friday.
@JonesBrosGarage
@JonesBrosGarage 3 жыл бұрын
I definitely would dude.. I felt the same exact thing honestly and wasn't sure if maybe I'd have to lower it or get a smaller bike or what. I wanna ride the big kid bikes lol... Honestly buying this V2 I was pretty nervous just being that I was riding such a beautiful and powerful bike and also because of my height.. But that went away within a few days of owning it. At 5'6 I can tip toe both sides so at a minimum you should be able to get a foot down pretty firm on one side. But the real thing to think about to help you out is that Vulcan I ride is 900+lbs and I can only tip toe with it and I ride it all the time. Not only do I ride it all the time, I always have a passenger. I was terrified my first week or so on it but you adjust to it quickly. You should be A okay on your Ducati, and it's normal that you'll probably feel scared about it when you first get it.. Good luck man 👍 oh and btw the Triumph Bobber is my favorite cruiser motorcycle

To be totally honest I'm not sure of my inseam. But I know it's below average for something who is 5'6 so it's pretty short. The panigale V2 seat height is 840mm or just over 33 inches!

Confidence does play a big role, I own a 13' 1199 panigale S and I'm 5'3". I've owned a hand full of bikes and ridden many, although the panigale felt good for me being that the seat is narrow compared to other bikes and the only con is my panigale doesn't like traffic.

Hey bro, I’m 5’ . I want to ride panigale one day. Can it be lowered?
@daguuudguy
@daguuudguy 2 жыл бұрын
@@randomsnaps5912 hey bro, I'd say try sitting on a panigale first. Depends which model year you buy, I actually own a V4S and still have my 1199S. The new V4 sits higher and the seat is a bit wider compared to the 1199 panigale. You could soften the dampening and add softer springs and tune the suspension to your weight, because lowering the bike hinders the bikes suspension capabilities and also the ground clearance sucks.👍🏻 let me know how it goes...which year panigale are you getting?? But to answer your question, the panigale can be lowered.

What about bikes that are so tall and heavy for me (in my case a KTM 1290 Super Adventure) that I can't even get it upright off the kickstand? I'm 5'8" with 30" inseam and I'm totally fine on my 2019 V-Strom 650 XT (though the first few weeks were a little tense, I quickly settled in). I have no issue leaning off the bike a bit on more precarious stops in order to get a better foot hold, and otherwise just slap the left foot down enough to keep it balanced. But that damn KTM in the showroom is just too much for me to even get upright.

But for the kick stand if i cannot reach that makes impossible for me to ride those baggers, i assume your bagger has the same position of kick stand

Your inseam is the determining factor NOT your actual height. I am 5 ft 5 with a 26 inch inseam. When I rode my 2001 r6 I could manage without lowering it. The 97 cbr900rr I had I had to install a lowering link. My dirtbikes were all too tall for me to comfortable ride unless I started off beside the bike and jumped on once moving.
