Best thing I ever did to improve my photography was to spend a few months shooting with film. Not for the film look but it forces you to get out of the fast line. Every shutter click is money. I also shot some slide film because it isn't forgiving of exposure errors. The images I captured with a an old Nikon 8008s film jalopy for $29 off eBay were much better compositions than anything I'd been doing with digital. So yes, it's not about the gear. That was well stated.

Good drill to follow to get in the film mind set. I plan to do a series with junk cameras people send in to prove your point!
