"Most snowboarders never make a carved turn..." Fact. All you have to do is watch the majority coming down the mountain while on the lift. Great vid, still need to clean up my carves over the next few decades. Key point: Terrain selection is def huge. I prefer mellow greens and blues all day for the carves. No shame in my game.

when you two work together you're like the mad scientists of snowboarding collaboration. last time you guys were together you absolutely nailed it. been trying to get my gf to commit an put pressure on the front of her board, get the side cut to grip when linking turns . She ends up going back to a Fallin leaf instead of toes heels toes heels. So basically a giant C turn. Giri said it best "on the heel slip you mercy of gravity " pulling you. you want to work against that that youdon't always want to go down the hill the way gravity is pulling us 👍. The best way I can describe it is having a car and you weight going to the back tires and the fronts barely grabbing. You cannot steer unless your front tires are down. a lot of people seem to be scared of committing and putting weight on their front foot and leaning down the hill they pulled back which creates more instability and less control leaning into your turns and the front of your board. You should have a saying that says " less slipping more gripping" haha

These basic lessons you've offered this year, is your best work, yet. Vids are must-see viewing for anyone learning or wanting to get better. So few riders ever get the experience of truly riding on their edge using the side cut. Keep of the good work.

This tutorial was perfect timing. We’ve just spent a week in Bansko Bulgaria and my mate asked me to help him to link his turns. He could already do falling leaf but getting him to do the carve on each edge and both ways across the slope until he was confident on each edge it was an easy progression for him to then turn onto the opposite edge as he was then already confident on it. We spent the morning on the nursery slopes then went to the top of the mountain which is a nice blue and rode to the bottom 12 km with no problem linking turns all the way. He’s been a sire all his life but is now converted. Thanks so much👍

On my 6th day learning to board... watching this channel. Snowboard addiction and snowboard procamp with TJ has made me realize as I progress just how much time I spend on making sure not to develop habits like my back slipping out when carving...now that I have learned to carve and link my turns... I dig solid trench's now. All I have looked for and tried for over the last few days has been around creating the deepest most solid line I can. Pushing into it. What I have been working on to up my balance and snowboard muscles is.. hopping while digging that trench on heel and toe edge. Massive progress from this.

Carved turns are f'n impressive for just 6 days riding! No joke, there are riders who shred all the time and think they are carving, but in reality never actually just tilting thier board and working with the cut it wants to make.. and they end up just doing high speed skidded turns back and forth rather than a real carve. Keep it up and Qapla'!

Nice! I'm a relative beginner too, I found that 100% of this video is 100% of what's been working for me to make really good progress lately. Going slow, easy green runs, tilting the board and letting it turn me (instead of trying to turn the board) and trenches are the result. Keep it up!

Nice job! I've been riding for 10 years (only going once per season) and don't know how to carve as I never really cared to try. Only after seeing Ryan and Snowboardprocamp am I inspired to learn how to carve this year. I've found my riding skill has not gotten any better, and it's because I don't carve.

I like this, I think it's kind of a good intro into your how to really really carve tutorials. I think that sensation of carving and "letting your side cut do its work" needed a bit more explanation for a beginner so they can look for and recognize that feeling when they get up on their edge and their board takes off.

I agree with what you said I've been teaching my girlfriend for 2 years now off and on she does really good in a falling leaf and then she'll end up going to a toe side turn Then going back to a hellside c turn and leaning into the front of her board she just ends up going into c turn facing uphill then stops. So basically giant C turns is what she's doing she doesn't understand that sensation of the g-force and leaning into the front of her board people are scared of that commitment

Awesome tips dudes! I'm a beginning snowboarder and I knew when I watched other people riding that I wanted to ride on the edge like that, I wanted to be able to carve. This is what I'm going to be working on to perfect! I love snowboarding and I've only went twice! Please keep up the great vids!

I would love to see a tips video on how you do your 360’s when in a carve. It looks like you are jumping off your front foot (nollie 360) vs jumping off your back foot. It almost looks like you’re spinning the back of your board to your front side vs springing off your back foot (which plants it to the ground) and rotating the front of the board to the back.

How much the type of board plays a role on carving? a camber vs a rocker? and which one do you recommend for someone who is trying to enjoy the mountain a little bit more? Thanks bud

Hopefully you see this and reply! Been on a few boardin holidays now and comfortably get down the mountain and want to work on edge control and get better at that as it will make me a better rider. I already have a board, 2017/18 Bataleon Evil Twin, it's a good board but 3D base, I love it but I assume you can't carve a 3d base very well... if I was to buy a new board, what width should I be looking at to be ideal for carving? My current one is quite narrow and toes and heel hang over each edge a bit! Cheers for any reply

He he.. Yo Ryan! When i usially adding the ankles to make heel side carve angle bigger, my board start skidding.... Are there any commonly mistakes? What moment should I add additional pressure with the ankles? In a moment of dropong the knees or in the lowest poing of tilting the board?

Sometimes when im really on edge it seems to run away and get real quick real fast not sure the deal about that but thats what turned me off from craving initially because once i was really on edge it was hard to get out of it and i would go flying off the side

That's definitely the effect that will happen with properly tilting a board on edge to carve. Tame, and work with that effect from carving and you'll love it. 😀🤘

Skidded turns will definitely come first for virtually everyone, but with knowing the techniques to try, even beginners can start working on carving. ✌️

One reason carving is not so popular - new board camber profiles - the rocker / hybrid camber profiles aren't as joyful to carve as pure camber - and yet that's the board types most people have now... even my "pure camber" Ride Burnout has "early rise" rocker on tip and tail... I think to really enjoy carving you need a pure camber board w no rocker.

So I'm pretty good toe side, but I've found myself sliding on heel side a lot. The wide Breck runs definitely help (loving it out here!), and I can easily traverse. Should I focus on getting that equal pressure on both feet? What are the common pitfalls for heel side?

I have the same struggle! Toe side is rock solid locked in, heelside always slides out!

Imao my pitfall with heelside was not letting the board turn naturally! i kept thinking aggression instead of being chill till it felt right. 11 days after that im getting low enough to touch the snow! Best of luck man!!!

@@Kryptik33 yeah. His argument was that we have the basics down cause we have been snowboarding for a couple of years. My thoughts were that a good instructor could probably have taken us to the next level.
