Bare skin is a bad idea for most apocalyptic kits. If you get cut while scavenging you might not be able to disinfect. Also in the desert you could get an awful sunburn.

great tips for costumes, but i'd like to point out that bright colors arent so "off", even in apoc/post apoc scenario.Faded colors are great addition to bleak drab/grey/greenish colors, if done properly. i've seen even fluorescent pieces that works fantastic in post apoc (those hi vis fluo jackets that workers use? absolutely great pice to mod ;) ), so... do agree on rest of the video.i have one more tip for good costume; BEFORE you start tearing apart cloths and combat vests, SIT DOWN, take paper&pen in your hands and put down backstory for your character. this way you can outline general look of character without hit the wall of "what to do next" barrier. im sure i wasnt the only one that has happened this to...

I think bright colors can look really cool when used right. see: the doof warrior for a recent example, or tank girl comics or ashley woods postapocalyptic action figures

I always think, if my shoes wear out I want tire treads strapped to my soles for: traction, and protect from cutting up my feet. Skimming clothing nothing to baggy with close fitting multiple pockets . Normal wear and tear look more natural than aging it. Keeping your hair out of your face is important as well. If you are in the desert covering your skin is important because of sunburn , and the more skin exposed the more likely you are to get overheated. Have some sort of water canteen . Binoculars and maps usually are good ideas.

A geiger counter is used for detecting small levels of radiation and any dangerous amount of radiation would basically fry it. So a dosimeter or survey meter would be more realistic.

My idea was always a cop or a soldier who was fortunate enough to not get dead. At the last moment he got a message about the bombs incoming and was able to get to minimum safe distance. The soldier angle uses the Vietnam war OG-107 reproduction jungle uniform, along with modern tactical gear to get the look right. The cop angle can use almost any modern police uniform with whatever police patches you can get. Scuffed boots, older pistol belts can work. But honestly I like the older military BDU or uniform for its use of shade OG-107. Since most of my stuff happens in hotter climates it’s a better look

I don't fully agree on what you say about colors. To have some colors on you costume can make it look more lively and ads some character to it. If everything basically have the same bleak, brown and gray colors, then all you do is following the unnecessary cliche that are very typical for post apocalyptic styles. Now, I am not saying that it is wrong with only having bleak, brown and gray colors. It all depends on what kind of mood you are trying to set. But to say that colors are a no no is a shame for 2 reasons. 1. in a post apocalyptic world, would you really care about colors? For example; If you are in a winter landscape, would you prioritize to dress warm or dress fabulous? 2. If your PA world is not that realistic to begin with (like Mad Max), the why not ad some colors? colors can help you portraying your character more efficiently. for example; if someone have a very aggressive personality, the maybe som red can help to portray him/her as such. And you don't need so much. Just some minor details are enough to make the costume more interesting. Everyone have their own opinions, but I felt that I needed to give mine. Colors are not dangerous to use. They can greatly improve the mood, even if it is dark and gritty. But in the end it all comes down to what you think looks good, so maybe this doesn't matter. We all decide that for ourselves :)

Well i don't agree with what you are saying fully because, the Mad Max costume can actualy be dirt cheap or even free for that matter, you just need to know where your looking and looting your parts for the costume. You can get away with using colors too like a red accent part or even pink and turqoise to enhance something, there is actualy no limits or regulations on what to do or what not to do. The examples you gave are if you are making a cosplay then you have to think about what to do and what not to do. I agree with you about the weather conditions though but that is also a tiny bit moot because Larps is usually held in the summer and summers tend to get hot no matter where you are (except for rain then of course grab a poncho) but in anyways there is no limits or regulations on what your character looks like.

Book covers is not the book only the cover how do you know the story into you read it. Having a cool story is way batter. looking cool just really adds to it. In other words a cool cover whit a shit story is disappointing as fuck but a cool cover whit an amazing story is just fantastic
