I love the Life Module character system. Sure, it gives you far less freedom to customize, but I enjoy how I can just build a backstory by slapping together a few stat blocks. The equipment PACKs in the back also help make sure you have what you need to do what you want to do.

It's the amount of "Special attribute points" you get. They are used for increasing Edge, Magic, and Resonance. For exemple, take the Troll (5) in A, and the Troll (0) in B. If you want to be good with magic but also be a troll, you'll have a difficult start if you took the B priority for your metatype since you have (0) special attribute point to put into magic. You'll also have a single Edge point. But, the troll (5) in A, will be able to spend those (5) special points for Magic Rating, and some Edge if he wants to. Well there's also the magic or resonance column that influence that. Be wary that you do not waste those specials points since there's a limit to the skill rating for character creation. For characters who get the magic/resonance priority they want, they'll probably put most of their special attribute points in Edge. For more details, re-read page 65~66 of the core rulebook. I'm liking the Priority system, but I think I went ape on the skills (quantity over focusing on a handful).

Focusing is alot better than spreading out, you can find yourself having all th eskills of your party but they have 5-6 ranks in them while you have 2 or 3.

Access to more physically capable metatypes, and more special points to spend on Edge or Magic. Elves unlock at D, Orks/Dwarves at C, Trolls at B for example. This means playing Ork or Troll can eat into your overall power budget, meaning you want to leverage the physical superiority of these characters to make your own niche. If you pick a lower priority race on higher priority you get more special points. Elves with Priority C gives them 3 special points, while on D they don't get any, leaving them low on edge (1~2). Humans can be run successfully with priorities up to C. Human C gets 5 special points that can be either used to get more Edge or more Magic. The former yields characters with 7~8 from the start, making them very versatile. The latter is typically done with Physical Adepts that don't get many bonuses from higher Magic priority aside from some skills. Metatype D and Magic C still yields 3 Edge and 6 Magic, saving up the priority B for attributes or skills.

That's how many points you get for special attributes. That's edge, magic, and resonance.

1) Will use magic? If no, then Put E in magic 2) is your metatype important for ya? If no, then put D in metatype 3) Do you need tons of money? Does your GM does a street scenario? if no put C in cash 4) Do you need more skills or stats? If stats put B in stats. finish the rest. If you want to be a rigger, you'll need much logic, reaction. For skills target vehicles, perception.

Built a human Street Sammie around amnesiac, hung out to dry, and flashbacks 1, with positives being biocompatability and some restricted gear access (used for cyber goodies). Ended up with a guy that looks like he was taken from a ww2 battlefield and had a bunch of cyber stuff slapped up on to him with no memory, a jeep, some clothes, and an m1 garand.

ArshikaTowers Hmmm i like to take from film and cliches then spice em up with something interesting. Either making someone a metatype that usually isnt or spomething fun like that... But for specific characters id need to know more to help.

Not really as in rpgs when referring to a class is like in D&D or MMOs where a class does this and only this and no exceptions. In shadowrun you can build a face who is a better fighter than your average Street Sam. You can have a mage that becomes a street sam with or without cyber wear and uses magic to supplement. You can make a street sam decker face who races motorbikes in the rat's nest. Archetypes is a name giving to a general starting point for a character. It helps to classify bit does not restrict what your char can do or is allowed to do. In a class based system the street sam would always be a street sam unable to take skills outside of his class or at least be heavily penalized by trying to take a skill outside his class. Same with mages they'd never become combat heavy with weapons or melee and all deckers would be sitting on their asses somewhere in the shadows trying to debuff opponents hoping like hell a troll is close by to pull anything that found him as they would be unable to defend themselves properly....but this is shadowrun so a decker who pulls out a predator and a katana and starts killing whoever comes near him while running programs in the background is possibly unlike a class based system

The difference is that a class has a set progression. Dnd wizards level up and get new spells, more health, bigger skills, etc. Shamans have to give up karma and money and time to learn new spells and to increase magic power you need to go through an initiation ceremony. And those processes can fail, especially initiations. You gonna get karma and money and you will use that to upgrade yourself or your equipment.
