I am a tutor with 40 years of experience tutoring students in homework, grade level material, etc. but also specializing in state tests and high schools and middle schools admissions tests (SHSAT NYCs Specialized High School Admissions Test, Hunter, Beacon, Baccalaureate, TACHS/CHSEE, PSAT 8/9, MS54 "Delta", Anderson, as well as NJSLA/PARCC/NJ ASK 8, Newark's Magnet Schools/G&T, BCA(Bergen County Academies), etc.) as well as the AMC and CML math competitions throughout NYC, NY, Long Island, CT and NJ.

I have no problem with the NYS math test. But im bad at ela tests so I used this. It helped me

Yes, many students feel this way. Math is often taught and thought of in a more granular fashion, but passages are often unknown monolithic blobs that need to be considered in part and in whole against ELA topics that overlap in their meanings. Anyway, glad I could help!

I finished the ELA midterm 2022 with a 38.1 which you can tell isn't the best, I'm just wondering how could I study for the next ELA test which is literally next week. I need to study super hard. I'm not 100% sure how people "study" for tests.

Hard to answer your question generally as I'd have to see your specifics, probably through tutoring. But generally you'll want to know terminology, critical thinking strategies, main idea, etc.

Not directly. I do plan to do a series including other grades, but I have no ETA for that at the moment. In the meantime, note that everything discussed here will also apply to other grades.

I will take the 8th grade NYS ELA state test tomorrow ( April 16 2024 ) and the day after ( April 17 2024) this will help Edit ( April 16 2024) : the test was very easy thanks to the tips. Hope I get a 4 !

This is discussed at 56:20 on the timeline; it is Grade 4. However, I don't mention it upfront because I think it's important to not give that any weight. What's important is the concepts I'm focusing on, as they will apply equally to all other grades and even other standardized tests.

There are different categories, some run from Grade 3-8, others in HS. Some of the underlying skills are the same.
