I personally recommend to use tiptronic gears (+ - or 3, 2, 1 gear options) to shift down to assist your brakes which will make you slow down. Do watch a video about tiptronic gears on KZfaq before trying to use them, or you might spoil your transmission. Surprised, he didn't mention this.
