I’ve loved watching you and Winston grow. I have a red tri named Ahsoka we adopted at 6 months from a farm. We got her in prime fear age lol. it was a lot of work to get her not afraid of our stairs or other people around, even small noises I could tell she would pick up on and get overwhelmed by. But we’ve had her almost a year and she’s improved so much and I’m so proud to have her. Aussies are such amazing loyal dogs and I can’t imagine life without her now. Love this channel and always love seeing new videos so I can learn more on how to be a better Aussie parent ❤

Couldn't agree more regarding crate training. It is super important. Blue is a red merle Aussie that loves his crate. We used a thin cotton fabric that covers half of his crate which makes it feel more like a cave/den. Whenever I need to mop the floor or when we just came back from a hike and I need some time to shower and get everything tidy again I say "go to your place" and he goes in, receives a little snack and chills out in there. We've even noticed in the last couple of weeks he'd go in there without us telling him. Whenever he wants to sleep or when there's too much going on (visitors or fireworks) he'll go in there and really enjoy the safety it provides. We also offer him his meals in there and his waterbowl is attached to the inside of the crate. It's just wonderful and I'm so glad we didn't listen to all the critics.

Onggggg my 6 month old Aussie NEVER STOPS. We will go out and play w her herding ball, her fav stick, AND a tennis ball in the yard for an hour and half....and she STILL wants me to toss a ball down hallway when we come in. I dont think Nova even sleeps 😂. The second I move...even just to roll over in bed at 3am she perks up like "what's up what are we doin? Where we goin?" I love her w all my soul but I'm exhausted 😂

@@fzg590 our first one died of Evans syndrome, a rare blood disorder at 11 years old. Tucker tore his ACL chasing squirrels but recovered beautifully after surgery and lived to 14 which our vet said was wonderful. Other than that they were very healthy. Our current baby Boo is terrific. No health issues. With all of them we would have itchy paws but that was minor. This is a very active loyal breed. They do not like being alone or confined for long periods of time. It can cause anxiety and bad behavior. Also they are super intelligent and will out think you and boss you around when given the chance. Best dogs ever with so much love and fun packed in a hairy body.

Your Aussie is so pretty! I have an Aussiedor (Aussie mother and choc lab father) and he has his mother’s ENERGY, he’s 7 months and rarely sleeps. Like on a scale of 1-10, he’s a 15 🤣 I’ve also noticed he took on the Aussie vocal yodeling (good alarm clock at least) He also has a great natural herding instinct, we never really had to teach him to stay near us in the woods or outdoors because he just herds us! I know he can be a lot and frustrates the family, but I love this little flufferboy, I never feel alone now because he demands he goes everywhere with me

I enjoyed this! So i liked and subscribed from two of my accounts haha. We just got Rocky. Its SO complicated because we also have 8, 6, 3.5 and 1.75 year old kids. The older two are totally down with training as a team with us, but the little two make it tough - though they add some desensitization built in I guess. At first, this was REALLY hard for me. I didnt want a dog, but i want a happy wife and kids. He is stealing my heart big time. I hope to do well with him. 9-10 weeks old and zero interest in other dogs (other than his brother who lives with my inlaws) and he seems to never want to wander away from us. He's always by our feet. Just as when we brought home out oldest kid, we just so badly wanted to be good parents - i was inclined to believe that wanting to be and caring enough to to want to be was the majority of the battle, but im not sure its that simple with dogs. Either way I really starting to love this little guy. Hope to raise him well. Thanks for your advice. PS: Looks like your in canada or maybe minisota? i'm in rochester and you have more snow than I do!

I'm getting an 11 week old Aussie in two days and now I'm worried lol. I've got a 2 year old chihuahua cocker spaniel mix and I'm in an apartment (moving to a house with yard in 3 weeks)so I want to make sure everything goes well and smoothly. I'm not the most fit person but I've been working on being more active and I know this dog will make me accountable to being active daily and making sure she's got plenty of exercise. I just hope 11 weeks isn't too old to start training her and I really hope she isn't biting at my other dog trying to herd her.

Hi... I enjoy all your videos with your Aussies. I would like to ask you how you manage the time with work and the training. If you have to go to work for a few hours, what do you do with Winston? Do you take him with you or he stays at home alone while you are working? How long? How he stay occupied while you are not at home? Thanks!
@winstontheaussieshep
@winstontheaussieshep 9 ай бұрын
Hi thank you! I work from home so I don't have to worry about that and is a reason why I have an Aussie. I don't recommend people getting an Aussie if they have to go into work. Especially as a puppy because it is unfair to the dog and the owner. They require too much attention. However, if it really is for only 2 or 3 hrs a day and the dog is 6 months, putting them in a crate will be the best option. As for training, like I said I work from home, so I have the time and is again a reason why I am able to have an Aussie. Hope this answers your question! 😊

I disagree. Our Aussie is hoke for 6-8 hours when we're at work and he's never destroyed or had an accident. We invested a lot of time in crate training from when he was 8 weeks old and utilized different toys inside of his crate to keep him comfortable. When we get home he goes outside for a long walk and outdoor play, then inside for mental training games. Aussies are insanely smart and love to please their owners, so working on developing which behaviors you want, plus building their confidence to be home alone is key. Our dog is almost 3 years old now and for the past year he's been left out of his crate 100% of the time. I don't think it's realistic to say that no one who goes into work should have an Aussie. Learn each other and it'll be fine

I absolutely LOVED this video.. I have a now 4 month old Mini Aussie; we've had her since she was 3 months old.... She has been the biggest challenge, I've ever had... I am fortunate enough to be home and work with her, but it has been difficult when there are times I am wrapped up in work; Potty training has been our worst enemy, I take her outside every 1 hr to 1.5 hours and she pee's multiple times, even poops. However, immediately after or maybe 20-30 minutes in, she's peed/pooped on the floor. I immediately take her out again.. Is there anything you suggest that I can do to help with this, or this just a patience thing?? The previous owners used puppy pads and I am wondering if that is part of her problem.
@winstontheaussieshep
@winstontheaussieshep 6 ай бұрын
Hey! I would put her in the crate as soon as you get back in the house. This way you are eliminating the possibility to pee on the floor. I'm not sure if you are crate training but you definitely should. So if you don't have an eye on her or engaging with her, put her in the crate. They don't like to pee/poo where they sleep so it will help teach her bladder control.

@@winstontheaussieshep - I wanted to come back and say THANK YOU for your advice! Potty training has been a HUGE success with your advice! About a 1.5 months after I had messaged you, our sweet girl finally understand the idea of going outside only. When she needs to go, she is AMAZING about alerting us- typically paws at our hands or heads straight for the door. Crate training has been a huge success as well! Next stop, figuring out a way to stop the "reactivity" to everything and certain people or animals.... Any advice on that? haha

It’s funny how a reason trains 1 or two dogs, and they are making videos as the dog whisperer…Hahaha, I have owned several Aussies, both male and female( Cuz yes, there’s only 2 freaking genders!!!) and I have made plenty of mistakes. But one thing is the same, they are dogs, not robots and they all have personalities each there own. My current is a 8 yr old female who is also my Sevice animal as I am a disabled Veteran with one leg. You want a challenge, lose a leg, then retrain your Aussie to be a service animal. She’s the best dog ever…most of the time. 😂

Are you a dog trainer lol? This is great advice. Hit the nail on the head for everything, though I personally think teaching your dog to play is not focused on enough. It's crucial to brain development and there's so many benefits... Then you even mentioned you got a trainer for your reactivity!!! 🎉🎉🎉 Perfect 🤌

Thank you!! And thank you for the feedback. I'm actually not a trainer, but funny enough I signed up for an internship with my trainer to actually become one (I haven't officially shared this news yet) 😝
