I give you the ABC's of spoon fishing, both the weedless spoon and the jigging spoon! These two spoons are 100% different from each other! These are old school lures but now I give them several new school additions!

It's quite clear to me that Roland , while in m y opinion is the best television host, where they want fish catches for their audience, actually excels just as much with this sharing, teaching, tutorials on bass fishing . Thanks Roland!

Used to use a Silver Minnow with a white pork strip to tear them up in farm ponds back in the seventies. Usually on a Sunday afternoon after watching Mr. Martin and Bill Dance on the weekly shows. Been playing with the Hopkins style for spillway fishing lately cause you can sling it way out there and the stripes and whites are hot for shad imitations. Even got a few hits from Spanish in Santa Rosa sound this summer. Going to pick up a few Silver Minnows next trip to Wally World and give them a try with a skirt. Great Post Sir!

Roland, my Mom caught a 9.9lb large mouth on A silver #7 Johnson spoon. With a pork rine trailer. On little lake george in a eal grass bed. In 1967. I still have the mount hagging in my house. Mom always out fished us all.

My favorite lure. But all these young guys look at me funny and smile when they see me use it. And even try to tell me hey you know theres more modern lures now days. But the smiles drop when they see the bass I catch with that old timers lure and I love it.

Those bass chasing those sexy small skirted fish, are such predators. They deserve to be captured and then confined at your local pond so they are removed from the population LOL . We love your videos and learning from you Roland! Awesomus Maximus!

I have caught some very nice spotted bass up on Smithlake AL using jigging spoons in the colder months but that being said ,I have donated hundreds of dollars worth of spoons to the bottom of that lake also!!! The weedless johnson spoon is indeed a Great bass catcher that you hardly see anyone using nowadays, that spoon has also been responsible for taking many slot Redfish overhere in Tampa bay!!! I would have never thought about adding a skirt to it or maybe even a willow leaf blade . Thanks for sharing your precious tackle secrets with us! I love to listen to your stories about past fishing trips Mr. Martin. You are one of the best storytellers of all-time!!! "Set That Hook"

John silver minnow with a white tail grub, a#3 chartreuse blade/ brown tail algia mepps, and a shiner red hook on slipshot are the only 3 rigs my dad needs to catch fish. whenever I have a hard time catching fish I always try one of these methods and it always works.

*Great item. First cast out of the package caught a nice bass. Pulls smooth in the water and sets up nicely immediately upon retrieval. Worth adding to your tackle box.*

Hi Roland. Great video! I've always enjoyed your videos and following you. I actually first met you many many years ago at Scotts Cove when you lived in Laurel, Md. I lived in Burtonsville at the time and kept a small boat on the bank at Scotts Cove. I fished Triadelphia and had a second home on the water at Lake Anna. I also worked at C&P Telephone co with your brother. I was in the Data Dept for a while and then transferred to the Hyattsville garage. I retired as 2nd level after 38 yrs. Keep up the great work. I'm glad to see you are doing well. Wayne Sullivan

Roland, great video. I haven't used a spoon in years but I do remember having a black spoon like the one you used a 5" worm on. Going to have to go to the barn where I have a couple old tackle boxes in the tack room and see if I still have any spoons. 🎣🐟

Roland, please use split ring pliers, you’re scaring me using that knife! Similar to the Hopkins, I use the Cordell CC spoon, they’re cheap from Wally World. Like you I replace the hooks and add a split ring. Most of the time I also add a tiny swivel, but not always. I even catch a lot of Crappies on the smaller ones and occasionally a big ole catfish. Great tip videos, keep them coming.

I've been using smaller spoons for catfish bait like the Foley spoon. I'll have to pick up some bigger spoons for bass. By the way, I use a Santee Cooper rig on all my catfishing setups. That's one of the mecca's for big catfish
