This was super helpful to lean into tactical and build for it. Inceptors have actually been clutch to come down where I need em and or keep the opponent from scoring. Plasma shredded 5 gravis bodies last night without oath even

Always run a lone operative for getting those early secondaries that would likely get overwatched. If you have a unit that can go into deep strike at the end of your opponent’s turn, run at least one of them for Capture Enemy Stronghold, Behind Enemy Lines and Engage on all Fronts. Always keep something resilient on or near enough to your home objective to ensure that your opponent doesn’t just get an easy 8VP with Capture Enemy Stronghold. Always keep your utility squads at minimum squad size, and without a leader attached.

I would say these are some hard rules to follow: 1) NEVER use new orders on turn 1. There are simply too many difficult to score turn 1 cards. 2) ONLY hold a card if you are 99% sure you can score it next turn. Even if it's like an 80% chance, just toss it for a new one. A lot of missions are pretty easy to deny when your opponent has an entire turn knowing what your mission is.

I am confused. Your advice to a new player is to go TACTICAL? As a moderately new player, I most definitely choose Fixed every time. I want to know what my goal is for the game, and not be subject to the luck of the draw. I honestly can't figure out how people play Tactical missions.
@timmellings7896

Tactical mission provide the advantage in the form of CP. every time you go a turn without scoring it, you gain 1. Not only that, but fixed missions can be easily interrupted and are extremely hard to max out consistently.

A new player will struggle more with how much telegraphing fixed missions causes. Your opponents will have a MUCH harder time denying your points scoring if they don't get to know what your next goals are either. Additionally (imo) tactical missions *usually* can pair nicely with a well balance and more "classic" looking Warhammer army/collection which is better for new players. It will keep you from feeling like you have to buy into a skew list, which is a volatile collecting style that is best avoided by new players for a number of reasons.

You're right. For people learning the game of 40k now it is easier to agree to play fixed missions. There are enough variables already. When you feel more comfortable with rules and list composition you can try out tactical.
@Tylerjstratton
@Tylerjstratton Жыл бұрын
His point is you have to have a very specific battle plan and army build to achieve fixed missions. Which is harder for a new player. But if you take a flexible / fast / utility army and play tactical missions you can focus on one problem a turn. It's not that bad - i recommend trying it. (Again you need a mobile list)

I played in 5th, came back at the end of 9th. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Sure, the complexity of tactical does make it harder to learn, harder to track and tells your opponents your objectives for the turn. But it also provides you the chance to earn more vp, helps keep your next move secret, and is more of the "deliberate practice" you need to take your game to the next level. Remember, greater challenges, greater rewards. Now, fixed might be easier to track, but provides less consistent scoring overall, lower max scores, etc. You gotta pick your battles. Best advice is that when in casual/practice/non-tournament games, use whatever is more difficult for you to win with, but in tournaments use which ever is easier for you to win with, unless otherwise dictated

wait, did I hear that right? You don't gain a cp if you discard the secondary at the end of the turn? Or did you just mean you can't if you have some other way of gaining cp, besides just for turn as normal?

What’s worse is that two of the Gambits are impossible for Elite Armies. Dividing what you have on the table in half, if that number is less than four, you need four. Yeah uhm, so if I have three I can’t do it…. Yeah Gambits are silly.

You mention a few times "that can cycle that bad card through your hand more quickly" are you implying that card is available later in the game?

He just means your cycling out the bad / hard cards, and making room for new easier ones. It says right on the stratagem that you discard it.

I don't understand diacarding- I thought it meant that when you did the objective then you got +1CP, buta it's more of a trade?
@limp144
@limp144 Жыл бұрын
The +1cp is only given if you discard one or more secondary cards at the end of your turn. You do not gain that CP for completing a secondary mission. So you have 3 options for cycling cards/missions: - Complete the mission - Pay 1cp for the strat to cycle a card for this current turn - Discard at end of your turn and gain 1cp for doing so.

@limp144 9 ай бұрын
@@javilo2797 No, discarding one or more secondary mission cards/objectives at the end you turn is the only way through missions. If you want to generate CP more reliably, a number of armies have the means to do so through some character abilities or enhancements.

Not being a tabletop player, I might not know what I'm talking about here, but why is scoring points on objectives a thing? If I took a Space Wolf company agains Orks, and I killed every enemy unit on the board by the end of top of the sixth turn, wouldn't I win? Well, according to the seemingly arbitrary objective rules, as I understand them, only if I scored more points by completing objectives during those six turns than my enemy. While I understand that objectives bring a measure of tactical play to a match, most of them don't seem to make much sense. If (in the example above) my opponent took a secondary objective that gave him points for killing characters, and he did kill my rune priest, and my tech marine, and he scored more points by holding point objectives on the field, but the battle ends with no Orks on the board, how can he have won? As far as I understand real warfare, you only win if you actually have people left to walk off the field when the battle is over. There may be some battles where completing a single objective, or a series of objectives, is enough to declare victory, even if all your units are killed afterward. Suicide missions are a thing in warfare, but in an open fight, where both sides are trying to dominate the field, anything less than driving every enemy unit from the field should be considered a draw at the most, regardless of points scored in objectives.

I dont like the name "Tactical" mission. It implies there is tactics behind drawing a random card and having to complete what it says.... Sometimes they are impossible or sometimes you get bring it down with a monster or vehicle stood right in front of you with 1 wound left. Again, nothing Tactical about scoring or not scoring in those situations, just luck.
