I am so glad to see I am not the only one who keeps every magazine to rip apart. I love birds, flowers, sometimes when it is only a tiny picture I want I go through with a round or square punch and make tags right away with them, them store then in a different area because they are so tiny.

great info here! fun to see what you saved VS what i would have saved! I like to create pages where i tell a whole story . So i have sorted my harvested images into food/archetecture/florals/animals/people/interesting things/color-pattern swatches. oh and of course words which I have not used any of in this particular journal! LOL Im using flat 12 x 9 baskets from the dollar store, they stack but alas they are overflowing. Unfortunately its getting harder and harder to find old magazines!

So glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for sharing a little bit about your process. It is always interesting to see what others keep vs what we would. I totally understand running out of space for all the clippings. I tend to have to do a big purge every now and then to recycle bits I haven't used to make room for more.

Thanks for this, some good advice in here! Inspiring! I'm currently going through old magazines I've saved and have been harvesting and getting rid of. I have so many. I used to be real into art journaling, glue books, collage, mixed media, paper crafting and used images and words and stuff so much. I've got tons of clippings I have not gone through in years. Magazines I haven't gone through in years. It's helpful going through that stuff now.I need space for stuff I am actually using now! I am saving some stuff as I go through it, but much less speaks to me than before, and that's okay. I think your idea of going back through older stuff and seeing what you'd use today is a good idea! I remember watching a Shannon Green video years ago when I was more into this stuff, and she was harvesting magazines, and she said to harvest them right away "or they'll take over your life" and it's so true. I have somehow accumulated so many, and they take up a lot of space. I think you're right about figuring out what kinds of images you would actually use and don't worry about the rest (even if it's cool or interesting or whatever).

You are so welcome! I am so happy that you enjoyed it and were able to get something out of it. Magazines can definitely pile up fast. I would say Shannon was definitely on to something when she said that lol. As you mentioned I think it is very important to go through them and make more room for the supplies you are actually using at the moment in your creativity. Happy Harvesting & Sorting ❤

National Geographic has a lot of good images, but one of my favs for funny titles is the Duluth Trading Co. advertisement. Also, my favorite things to cut out are animals (frogs and insects for some reason). I also like funny things to liven up my art.

Can't pass up a good animal or funny quote. I am definitely going to try and get my hands on a Duluth Trading Co magazine like you mentioned. Is that where those huge quote cutouts you sent me a long time ago came from?

lol "Future Leeann". First of all, congratulations on designing and publishing your planner! It's a real book and everything! That just fascinates me and I have no idea how to do that. It's not for me -- I can't have more than one planner book for the year....that would absolutely kill me -- but I'm so happy for you! Okay....magazines! I am a HUGE, HUGE magazine junkie. I WANT to be a reader and a clipper, however for the past decade+ (I'm not kidding) I just hoard them. I have this huge decorative box that I got from Michael's a LONG time ago. It's 10" wide x15" long and 8" deep. It's really nice...has four metal corners on the lid and bottom of the box as well as metal handles on 10" sides. I have magazine clippings and various memorabilia stored in it. I also have those zipper bags from your Amazon list (though I'm actually not sure if I ended up getting the ones you had or something else). They're a pack of 30 in various colors and sizes. I love them! I have fashion mags, home decorating mags, a couple Somerset Studio subs, entertainment mags, cooking mags, various kinds. Off the top of my head, Real Simple is a good one to get art journaling things from too. I need to get around to going through this latest mag hoard but until then, should the zombies rise to power before that, I can make the kid and I some excellent anti-zombie suits. ;) ETA: I left a lot of various magazines in magazine files at my old apartment when I moved to my house like 12 years ago and I'm STILL pissed about that. I had Yahoo! Internet Life magazines back there among others. :( Google it, young people. YIL! was awesome!

Thank you so much Lacie! Having my planner in my hands is still a little mind blowing. I love that you can use one planner for the entire year! I want to be that person but am just coming to the terms that I can't commit for that long lol. It sounds like you have a beautiful box full of so many treasures. I can imagine that it is lots of fun to dig through. Those bags are so awesome for everything! Thank you so much for sharing about your lovely magazine collection it was so fun to read about. Sorry to hear that you left so many back when you moved. That is sad. I remember the Yahoo days well but never knew they made a magazine! I will have to do a google search and take a peek. ❤

Just found you! Several things of note. If you are anything like me, open boxes of papers are a bad thing. I'm a klutz and my art tables are never pristine landscapes. I've had some spectacular Opps with papers flying every which way! Today I use translucent boxes with secure latches and giant rubber bands. When I drop a box now only the contents get shaken up. I do label them with huge letters I can read from across the room. Magazines are so seductive to artists. A million wishful thinkings that can become a storage nightmare. I start with a wish list of images I'm looking for -- clouds, table settings, etc. Your list might have butterflies, watches, etc. I'm often looking for backgrounds like rainforests or deserts. I used to harvest anything red or purple. Your wish list is your reality check. The other eye candy in any one magazine either supports your wish list or deeply inspires you. Please recycle the remains.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. Luckily my bins live on my shelf and I have only knocked them over once or twice. But I love the idea of clear bins with latches. Your wishlist idea is very cool as well. Always recycle ❤️

Keeping it simple is the key. No wonder, i ofter feel so over whelmed. Free magazine here is not free. I love the magnolia magazine btw..... the Future Leanne pile is really awesome. I love non fashion magazine....bec its so limited and dizzy and too shiny.... I love art magazine its more muted ones ... But I need to buy them so i make sure that the articles is very intersting. Its like killing 2 birds with 1 stone...Thank you for this wonderful video as usual. Love it!!! BTW, i love the bookshelf pictures...

I'm just getting started. Someone in a group mentioned buying the harvested bits for vision boards. Well that not something I've done before, but I have old cooking, gardening and national geographic magazines in storage. So I thought I'd research a little before starting the process to see what I'd be getting into. Plus it'll give me something to do while watching TV or KZfaq

Hi Abby! Ooo so fun that you are getting into magazines! They are full of a wealth of inspiration. I really enjoy all of the magazines you mentioned above. Vision boards are absolutely a great use for magazines but really the possibilities are endless. It's super relaxing to just pull out things you enjoy and then make a collage in your journal or on something to hang on the wall that will make you happy whenever you look at it. Happy Creating!

Loved watching this - I need a better way of storing my magazine cuttings as they’re in folders and not easy to see. Which by bun class did you do that got you into using the background elements?

I am so glad you enjoyed it Leanne! The class that I took was her Lunar class but I believe she does a similar background technique in several of her classes.

@@leannejournals Yes I did, sorry I didn't mean to criticize, just thought maybe if you moved your camera a little farther 'up' or something, when you were going thru your folders they were mostly off-screen. But I've done lots of collages myself so I am sorry, you did a good job and I sure wouldn't have the competence to do a video in public! Keep doing what you're doing!
