Thanks Alex. The articulations on the studio horns are amazing. The only other Logic set that’s similar is the Studio Strings. I’ve done a video on them too. Like you, I use 3rd party libraries for complex articulations for most of my orchestration.

@ImpliedMusic So you can play on these two, you mean? Have you ever tried to play Mozart's Clarinet Concerto on the basset horn??? I think his ideas for that piece originated on it...he had to keep up with his pupil Sussmayr who was writing one too...and you do you play post horn too? So you would know the Koenig Gallop right?...and again, Mozart. Have you ever tried to play the Posthorn Serenade's 2nd Minuet solo in the second trio section?

@ImpliedMusic you got me there!!! Well you said you played clarinet, you never know...and I realize that in most Jazz and Pop/Rock 'horn' sections, there isn't a French Horn, and when you say horn in the context of orchestral music, it's always a French Horn, so that's how you got me lol!

when i shift click to select multiple regions, the edit window displays all of the notes in each track/region. i'm tracking individual horns on individual tracks. You can see that multiple selection happen in this video at 4:55... it goes from one track/region to two, as i shift click to add to my region selection.

okay, it does that for me too. since the layered preset is grouped, it's possible to fold open the group, clicking on the track header arrow to see the individual instruments in the patch. (trumpet, sax, trombone) you could then record on those tracks individually, while still getting the processing set up that comes with the patch. i ALWAYS track my horn individually, so that's my best advice. i will say that the ensemble auto-assign settings in studio horns aren't always effective... maybe it's got something to do with that. when i play the hells kitchen with 3 voice chords, i can see the channel for the bone is active, each instrument is playing, assigning itself to the usual spot in its voicing. but if i play a single voice, it really doesn't track instrument register... it's just a trumpet and sax. this may be by design... as i said, i prefer to make these choices myself.

You can use articulation maps in Cakewalk at the top of the piano roll. But these articulation maps need to be set up manually first. In order to use them you need to add all of the articulations from your library and link them to the correct keyswitches. Once everyhing is set up it works quiet well, but I don't really use it much because it has to be done for every library separately. Another way would be to simply use normal keyswitches. You just need to check where the keyswitches from your library are and then you can draw in the midi in the pianoroll right before the actual note you want to change. A third option would be to use separate tracks for each articulation. Hope this helps. :)
