In real life this is the same has hiding your religion in territory where it is not excepted. Sure you could blend in, but that would mean being forced to integrate into the a religion you don’t believe in and abandoning your beliefs and way of life.

@@christophercardoza2872 I mean, that's better than living alone (some ppl are fine with that but she was clearly lonely), being hunted all the time, and slaughtering hundreds (if not thousands) of ppl. The ppl mostly don't deserve to die. Most other witches are aggressive and proactively kill ppl. She is like the equivalent of a non-aggressive minataur. You cannot really blame ppl for attacking a minataur on sight, even if it turns out this minataur is passive. Also, IRL most religiously persecuted ppl do hide their religions or they flee. It's not a really good analogy tho since normal humans cannot fight off hordes of mercenaries. So we don't know what would be the norm if they could do that.

Usually in these kinds of stories, "heroes in hiding" tend to suffer from an inability to let a tragedy they could prevent happen before them, even if it means revealing themself. Hiding as a good witch might mean having to watch as people die from wounds or sicknesses you could have healed for example.

Would you rather live your life unable to use this amazing power thats basically a part of yourself and a whole different world of amazing stuff you can do, just so you can live with people who hate you for having that power, or just fucking use that power to defend yourself instead? For me, the choice is obvious. She loves magic, people are not worth abandoning it for.

Basically the new continent is your usual Isekai setting

@@zacharyrollick6169 That anime bothered me so much because the MC was such an obnoxious immature kid. I understood that was the point, and by the end I ended up enjoying it. My favorite characters from that series were the professional pilot couple, for some reason they were so memorable to me.

@@cryms. Yeah then that makes even less sense. Homeboy in a foreign land on a job for someone who decides to become an adventurer. Also he's told that mercenaries are disrespected and that the professions are essentially the same. It's a good backup plan and a better cover to not stand out if that's what he is concerned about (because that was what he was concerned about at that time)

In terms of writing too, mercenaries might have certain privileges/rights in certain circumstances - like an order from the guild to not get involved but since he's a mercenary he's not confined to those rules (we can go on and on about the possibilities... a good thing in terms of writing options). She could just hire him again on the spot to do what she can't given a situation, there's lots of potential in this series - good question tho.
